Description:

The Dell Medical School of The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Uveitis fellowship-trained Ophthalmologist to join the Department of Ophthalmology and the Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute (MSWEI) at the Dell Medical School. Qualified candidates will be considered at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor.

The Dell Medical School is part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation’s leading research universities. The Dell Medical School pursues innovation in the redesign of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and interprofessional education. The Dell Medical School is the fifth medical school in the UT System and the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has already been made to enable the development and success of the Dell Medical School.

The Dell Medical School is focused on the development of new models for healthcare delivery, promotion of health, and clinical care for the community’s underserved population.

The inaugural Department of Ophthalmology and the MSWEI seek to recruit dynamic, academically oriented, mission aligned faculty to help form the DNA of the new department. This is a 70% - 100% FTE position.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a clinical ophthalmologist to deliver evidence-based care with an interest in redesign initiatives at 70% FTE effort.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of the Uveitis Program at the Dell Medical School and other future sites of service.
  • Assist in the training of residents and students in the clinical and surgical management of the eye conditions and diseases of the eye.
  • Participate in strategic planning and other efforts directly tied to the development and growth of the MSWEI.
  • Interest in developing outcomes metrics to measure patient-centric outcomes.
  • Develop partnerships with referring physicians, hospitals, and ancillary providers in Austin and Central Texas.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Graduate Medical Education curricula.
  • Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic inquiry in conjunction with trainees and researchers at Dell Medical School and UT Austin.

  • Associate Chair of Education (Residency Program Director)
  • Associate Chair of Research
  • Associate Chair of Clinical Operations (Medical Director)

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school
  • Current Board certification/eligibility in Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship training in Uveitis
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Texas
  • Eligible for faculty appointment with the University of Texas at Austin
  • An interest in clinical research is desirable and could be supported with start-up funds

  • Record of leadership and achievement.
