This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before one year from the date of appointment with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
This position, in collaboration with the Director of Identity Centers and the Associate Chief Diversity Officer for Student Engagement, provides leadership and long-range planning for the Latinx Resource Center. The Assistant Director provides day-to-day support to and oversight of student employees, volunteers, and interns. The Assistant Director collaborates with the Director of Identity Centers and the Associate Chief Diversity Officer for Student Engagement, student staff, and campus/community partners to implement training, programs, and services of the Center.
This position will assume a shared role in ensuring a physical space, which fosters safe, inclusive, and affirming social and educational interactions for Latinx students utilizing the Center. This position will represent SDSU to external community and governmental organizations. This position will/may be called upon as a resource in responding to sensitive equity, crisis, and individualized issues particularly as they relate to Latinx and other underrepresented groups. This position will serve as a mentor and advisor to students, and a resource to other faculty/staff positions on campus. This position will work with interns and student assistants to design and deliver programs for graduate and/or undergraduate students, and University employees to promote leadership development, equity, multicultural education, social justice, and to address the intersectionality of identities such as gender, race, religion, ethnicity, class, and ability. This position will promote the Latinx Resource Center and raise awareness of related issues through supporting events, representation on campus-wide committees, programs, and materials. This position will report to the Director of Identity Centers.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,875 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,554 - $6,488 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- A Master’s degree in Latin American Studies, Ethnic Studies or Cultural Studies, or Women’ Studies, Higher Education Administration or a related field.
- Bilingual or multilingual, preferably with fluency in Spanish
- Prior experience in higher education.
- Ability to provide on campus resources to students along with resources in the larger transborder region.
- Experience working from anti-racist, queer and feminist frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to apply power, privilege, and inequity concepts to create safe
- working environments for minoritized students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience participating in and leading movement(s) to create meaningful systemic change.
- Track record operating with an anti-oppression framework and an anti-deficit lens
- Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture.
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse Latinx populations, including undocumented students and students from varied national origins.
- Competency in cross-cultural communication.
- Possesses leadership qualities such as: proactiveness, vision, being a self-starter, positivity and creativity.
- Ability to facilitate difficult dialogues, effectively listen to all points of view and build consensus.
- Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.
- Considerable knowledge of student and leadership development theory, identify development models, group and individual behavior principles, and implications for practice.
- Ability to develop and deliver training and education workshops.
- Documented experience developing and coordinating programs and events.
- Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs of Latinx students.
- Ability to collaborate and work with other units regarding issues of diversity and community.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with key senior management, faculty, and administrators regarding issues that impact Latinx students.
- Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to conversional, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and situations.
- Ability to assess, design, implement and evaluate effective programming and policies as related to this position.
- Ability to work well independently and follow through on projects with minimal directions.
- Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities.
- Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaborate with diverse constituencies.
- Ability to recruit, train, and support students for work in the Center for advocacy work on campus.
