Job Description Summary:
Lock Haven University seeks a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Director of the new School of Nursing. The successful candidate must be well versed in the development and implementation of all levels of Nursing Education. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences and Director of the Clearfield campus. The new School of Nursing is comprised of ASN, LPN to RN, and RN to BSN (online) programs and is entering into a phase of geographic and programmatic expansion. Lock Haven University is one of fourteen institutions in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, enrolling approximately 3100 undergraduate students and 350 graduate students. The Clearfield campus currently enrolls the majority of Nursing students and is located in rural north central Pennsylvania in the scenic Appalachian Mountains along Route 80, one hour west of the Lock Haven campus. The Clearfield Campus serves approximately 350 students and offers associate, bachelor, and master degrees with an emphasis on disciplines in the area of health and human services including Nursing and Physician Assistant programs. Pending approval from ACEN, the ASN and LPN to RN will also be offered on the Lock Haven Campus and in Lycoming County. Distance education technologies are used to coordinate educational experiences between the two campuses and with the community.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences and Director of the Clearfield Campus, the Director of the School of Nursing is responsible for managerial oversight of the LPN to RN, ASN, and RN to BSN programs. The Director will also provide leadership to the School of Nursing during geographic and programmatic expansion including development of an integrated curriculum for a BS to BSN and BSN, MSN, FNP and, ultimately, DNP programs. S/he will work closely with the Chair of Nursing and Nursing Program Directors, pursue external funding opportunities, and forge strong partnerships with local and regional Health Care providers that will allow Lock Haven University to address healthcare needs in the Commonwealth. In keeping with the sharing system of PASSHE, the Director will also build productive collaborations with Nursing programs at other PASSHE institutions. The position of the Director of the School of Nursing also assists the Dean of the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences and Director of the Clearfield Campus with key areas including strategic planning, budget, recruitment, marketing, facilities, student activities, and community engagement.
Specific Duties include the following: Provide innovative leadership in the development and growth of the programs within the School of Nursing. Display a strong commitment to a comprehensive nursing education curriculum that seamlessly integrates multiple entry points into the RN and BSN programs. Provide leadership to secure and maintain accreditation by appropriate state, regional and national educational and nursing entities. Establish collaborations with key members of the nursing community and advisory committees to develop projects, recruit students, and maintain an exchange of expertise between the health care community and the School of Nursing. Maintain an active presence within the local, state and National nursing organizations to maintain communication, monitor needs, and determine partnerships. Remain informed of new issues, challenges, and trends with in nursing and nursing education and translate those to faculty, staff and administration. Build consensus and foster cooperation among School of Nursing faculty and faculty across other programs. Advise Provost and Dean on matters of educational policy and student issues relating to and impacting the School of Nursing. Actively engage in developing external partners and revenue generation.
raduate degree in nursing from an institution with national accreditation in nursing (CCNE or ACEN) is required. Successful applicants will also possess a distinguished record of excellence in nursing education, clinical experience and at least three (3) years of administrative experience or its equivalent including demonstrated success in cultivation of external relationships, participation in national/state accreditation processes, academic planning and strategic planning and budgeting, and revenue generation. Familiarity and success with delivery of academic programs through distance education is also key to this position.
Terminal degree in Nursing or related profession. Familiarity with Pennsylvania Health Care Systems, PA State Board of Nursing, and ACEN accreditation.
