Multiple positions available.

SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to maintain and operate a developmentally appropriate classroom in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the NIC Children's Center. Classroom assignments vary by age group and may include infant, toddler or preschool ages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Provides classroom teachers with breaks and planning time.
  • Engages children in appropriate play, both inside and outside.
  • Facilitates positive meal times by participating in family style dining.
  • Contributes to daily classroom clean-up.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Promotes awareness and acceptance of individual differences among children, families, and staff members in the program.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students, and the community.

Marginal Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum qualifications necessary for an individual to satisfactorily perform each essential duty and be successful in the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the duties.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED, and a minimum of six months relevant experience. Working with children and families from birth to five years preferred. Candidates who are currently enrolled in Early Childhood Development programs preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

Must have or obtain an Individual Child Care License from the City of Coeur d’Alene prior to beginning work. A temporary permit can be accepted to begin work while licensing is in progress.

To obtain the license, the license applicant must:

  • Submit evidence of current infant/child CPR training, and infant/child first aid training valid through current licensing period.
  • Complete the criminal history background check within three (3) days of hire, and complete training within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Submit evidence of a negative tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must complete the Idaho Child Care Program training requirements within sixty (60) days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Proficient use of personal computers and peripheral devices includes printers and scanners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create solutions for problems/situations dealing with children.
  • Ability to prioritize, sequence and research work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively present to small groups.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met or are encountered by an employee in the normal course of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical requirements and environment are typical of those in a general office setting. Typically involves regular sitting, standing, walking, typing, moving, lifting objects up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds with or without assistance, and exposure to office lighting etc. A wide variety of standard office equipment is continually used, including phone, fax, copier, printer and computer. May be exposed to outside weather conditions and contaminants, blood borne pathogens, or other health threats.

Compensation: $10 per hour.

Work Schedule: Approximately 19 hours per week; hours vary within Mon.-Fri. 11am-4pm
