The Ahmanson Division of Translational Imaging (ATID), Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, is recruiting a non-tenure track, full-time Adjunct faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to serve as preclinical theranostics scientist. Candidates are expected to have extensive experience in the areas of experimental nuclear medicine and oncology, and in small animal imaging and therapy studies, and to have mastered the full range of in vitro biology assays including standard molecular biological and protein biochemical methods, flow cytometry, tissue culture, and functional, phenotypic assays.

The ATID has created a successful translational science program, ranging from biology, chemistry/radiochemistry, PET probe development, drug development, and preclinical imaging to clinical research and clinical service. Among its more recent accomplishments is the establishment of the premier translational theranostic program in the nation.

To meet the Division's distinct and growing needs, this position will be responsible for in vitro and in-vivo preclinical theranostic imaging and therapy; development of rational combination treatments involving radioligand therapy in prostate and pancreatic cancer; optimization of relevant murine models and therapy models; mechanistic in vitro studies ; managing research technicians and student researchers.

The selected faculty will interact with regulatory experts in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology and provide expertise in Animal Research regulatory compliance; lab safety management; and grant submissions to intra-and extramural agencies.

Other activities will include:

  • Strategic planning - overseeing long term animal experimental studies

  • Approval - oversee all aspects of nonclinical development and interactions with DLAM
  • Integrating preclinical theranostics research from cells to murine models
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Division for animal safety
  • Teaching and training - provide lectures to graduate and undergraduate students

    Candidates must have a PhD in Biology, Biomedicine or Pharmacology. The candidate must have documented experience with animal research involving PET imaging; theranostics; alpha and /or beta therapeutic radiation; in vitro studies involving standard molecular biological and protein biochemical methods, flow cytometry, tissue culture, diverse phenotypic and mechanistic assays and a track record of interacting with animal research University regulatory bodies. Candidate must also document ability to evaluate proposed investigational projects, in vitro and in-vivo.
