This position manages and develops William & Mary’s career readiness opportunities to include internships, externships, shadowing, immersion experiences and more.
This position spends concerted time advising students on available opportunities and helps them research and apply for said opportunities appropriate to their career goals. S/he serves as a generalist career advisor, meeting individually with students from all backgrounds and majors. The Assistant Director for Career Readiness also contributes to overall Career Center projects and programs as assigned.
The Assistant Director of Career Readiness identifies prospective employers, in conjunction with the Cohen Career Center team, and solicits their involvement in William & Mary’s career readiness programming. The Assistant Director works in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Employer Relations on postings for current students and develops, organizes, and maintains appropriate sections of the Cohen Career Center website
The Assistant Director of Career Readiness evaluates program outcomes and develops improvement and project plans. This includes proposals for new programs and initiatives related to funding options, tracking, and assessment of career readiness activities.
This position creates and implements comprehensive marketing plans to advertise programs and deadlines.
This position provides workshops, reports out to the Parent & Family Council, oversees the unpaid internship stipend fund and works collaborative with offices across campus to support students.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of student development and career development theory and practice; career advising and/or coaching skills (Resume Writing, Application Letters, Interviewing Internship/Job Search Strategies); effective presentation and written communication skills; technological proficiency with Career System Management, CSM, preferred); proven ability to establish professional rapport with students, faculty, alumni, employers and staff colleagues.
A Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field is required. 1-2 years of experience in a college career center or college recruiting, graduate assistantship is acceptable and can account for the required years of experience.
