The College of Nursing has an opening for a part-time Family NursePractitioner (FNP) / Instructor in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Trackwithin its federally qualified community health center, Sheridan HealthServices (SHS), located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236).

Natureof Work:

TheUniversity of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a Family NursePractitioner (FNP) / Instructor in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Track for apart-time, (0.50 FTE, with possibility of extra shifts depending on the needsof organization) benefits-eligible position at Sheridan Health Services, aFederally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code:80236). This position will primarily provide integrated primary care at bothour Family Health Clinic and Youth Health Clinic, serving both pediatric andadult populations.  This positionincludes an instructor level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointmentwithin the College of Nursing.

ClinicDescription:

Sheridan HealthServices is a multi-site, nurse-managed federally qualified community healthcenter, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureauof Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College ofNursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now ~45 employees at twoconvenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents ofSheridan, Englewood, and North Littleton. A Youth Health Clinic is located inthe Sheridan School District Administration building. The Family Health Clinicis located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides servicesto adults and children, 42% of whom have indicated Spanish as their language ofpreference. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenataland postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, andoutpatient substance abuse treatment. Examples ofWork Performed:

  • Serves as primary care provider for the clinic’s patientpopulation
  • Performs accurate physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses,treatments, follow-up, and consultation.
  • Coordinates the activities of patient care
  • Participates in after-hours call
  • Obtains patient history and develops comprehensive plan of care
  • Provides health education to patients, students, families, and/orcommunity health practitioners and groups
  • Provides leadership in design and implementation of integrated,interprofessional models of care delivery and evaluation of patient outcomes
  • Participates in programmatic planning, developing specificevidence-based health policies and procedures
  • Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods
  • Functions asa clinical preceptor and/or clinical instructor for health professionsstudents.
  • Providesindividualized client teaching and counseling utilizing evidence basedpractice.
  • Identifiesdeviations from normal and consults as needed.
  • Completesnecessary documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure strict compliance with University and professionalpolicies/procedures.
  • Adept at Electronic Health Record (EHR) usage, troubleshooting,improvement processes, and downtime procedures.
  • Assistswith grant reporting as needed.
  • Actively participates in marketing and patient recruitment
  • Performsother duties as assigned.
  • Activeparticipation in health plan contracts.
  • Remainscredentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials staycurrent.

Qualifications

MinimumQualifications:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Board certification as an FNP
    • Current RN and APN licensures in good standing (any state) Couldbe working toward CO clinical licenses during application process andregistered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies.  Must have CO licensures by date of hire.
  • CurrentPrescriptive Authority (RxN) Licensure (Any State)
    • Must have Colorado RxN license by date of hire.
  • Minimum 1-year Advance Practice experience

 Conditions of employment:

  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RN and APN licenses bydate of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RxN license by date ofhire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date ofhire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid Colorado MedicaidProvider number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to complete CAQH by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certificationby date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to actively participation in health plancontracts.
  • Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the healthplans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient careenvironment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays asrequired.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Experienceutilizing bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversation level in aclinical setting
  • CurrentDEA licenses and full prescriptive authority
  • Experienceworking with population based outcomes
  • Experiencedclinical preceptor
  • Experienceworking with pediatric populations.
  • Experienceworking with integrated care team. 

Competencies:

  • Considerabledegree of independent judgment and work priorities is necessary to monitor andrespond to changes in a client’s condition.
  • Clinicalexpertise in both pediatric and adult primary care.
  • Abilityto use computer and clinic software, and to document in EHR, ensuringcompleteness and accuracy.
  • Exceptionalinterpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients, theirfamilies, and other members of the health care team
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to perform clinical teaching
  • Attentionto details.
  • Ability to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensurecredentialing materials stay current.
  • Ability toeffectively develop and promote practice through participation in marketing andpatient recruitment
  • Abilityto take one week-at-a-time on-call in a rotation schedule.
  • Availabilityto work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to handle average nurse practitioner caseload.
