Job Summary:

The Universityof Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a ProfessionalResearch Assistant. This full-time position is responsible for: The researchbeing done is basic science research. The study of cells from rodentlungs of models of the human disease bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD) and the use of novel experiments in the laboratory to betterunderstand how these cells function and affect development of the lung vasculaturebefore birth and during the neonatal period.  The goal of thestudy is to study how vitamin D signaling affectsnormal lung development and how altered vitamin D signaling in rodentmodels of BPD leads to abnormal pulmonary vasculature and lungdevelopment.  This will help to identify therapies for prematurebabies who are at greatest risk for BPD life for infants with this severelung disease.


Examples ofWork Performed:

  • General lab maintenance, ordering lab supplies, cleaning, surgical supply preparation, and organization of data. 
  • Manage rodent colony; duties include animal ordering, survival surgeries, tissue collection and analysis. 
  • In vivo physiologic studies; rodent pulmonary function testing, echo cardiogram blood pressure and pulse oximetry measurements.
  • Primary cell culture; isolate, expand and perform experiments from primary cell isolates.
  • Biochemical assays;western blot, PCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISA

PLEASE NOTE: Candidateswill be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process andany relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Nature of Work:

A full-time Professional Research Assistantposition is available in the Pediatric Heart Lung Center at the University ofColorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. The ideal candidate will be reliable,personable, highly motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work as partof a group of PRAs, as well as under the direction of multipleinvestigators.  This is an excellentopportunity to join a fast paced, productive research group.


Minimum Requirements

BS/BA in biology orrelated field
At least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience

Preferred Qualifications

An understanding ofmolecular biology
Primary cell culture experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic scienceresearch background

Basic computer andmathematics skills

Proficient user ofMicrosoft office

Strongorganizational skills

Basic sciencebackground
