Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The School of Nursing is CCNE accredited and is an NLN Center of Excellence in Faculty Development. Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Nursing (SON) is seeking an energetic, creative and motivated scholar to serve as the PhD Program Director. The director is responsible for the overseeing and ensuring the quality and operations of the PhD Program. Specific responsibilities include leading curriculum review and revision, overseeing student recruitment, enrollment, matriculation and graduation, student advisement, and program evaluation. The PhD Program Director will also serve as the Daphine Doster Mastroianni Distinguished Professor (Endowed). This professorship supports the research, teaching, practice, and service missions of the School of Nursing. This position supports the graduate programs. The scholar must be a leader in education, research or healthcare; and demonstrate expertise and a track record in research design and methods, extramural funding, and peer-reviewed publications. Research priority areas include: healthcare of vulnerable populations, heath disparities among underserved and disadvantaged populations, and population health. Applicants may have experience in a variety of settings, and the successful candidate will have a record of scholarship and evidence of teaching ability consistent with the rank of tenured full professor at a research university.

Responsibilities include administration, engaging in research, teaching, directing and serving on dissertation committees, and engaging in academic and community service. Salary, rank, and tenure status are dependent on prior experience, maturation of the candidate’s program of research, and history of extramural funding. This is a 12-month faculty appointment. Salary is highly competitive.

Applicants must meet North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse licensure requirements prior to hire date and hold a doctorate in nursing or a related field.

In athletics, Spartan teams compete in nine women's and nine men's sports in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. With ethnic minority students making up 26 percent of the student body, UNCG is the most diverse of the UNC system's historically white campuses.

    The University's Academic Affairs Division consists of seven academic schools, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Graduate School and the Lloyd International Honors College. The names below are the ones currently in use. In some cases, the names have changed since the academic units were founded. The schools and their dates of establishment are: Graduate School 1921-22;College of Arts & Sciences 1969, Lloyd International Honors College 2005, Joint School of Nanoscience & Nanoengineering 2007, Joseph M. Bryan School of Business & Economics 1969, School of Education 1921, School of Health and Human Sciences 2011, School of Music, Theatre and Dance 2010, and School of Nursing 1966.
