The Rice Neuroengineering program administrator will oversee all administrative and financial operations of the Neuroengineering Initiative and all its affiliated curricular and co-curricular programs as well as activities with external partners.

Experience Preferred

- Five years of experience in a higher education environment
- Experience managing personnel and grants and contracts with federal and/or state agencies
- Experience with website creation and/or maintenance

Internal / External Contacts

Works with a wide variety of individuals at Rice, government, industry, external affiliates
of the department, and other collaborating institutions.

Within the university: Work closely with RNEI affiliated faculty and research staff; communicate effectively on an ongoing basis with School of Engineering, other Rice departments, centers, and institutes including Rice News, Office of Sponsored Research, Office of Research, Accounting, Development, Legal Counsel, Office of Technology Transfer, Office of the Provost, etc.

External to the university: Communicate with collaborators and sponsors, including
members at other universities, governmental labs, industry, etc.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of up to eight hours per day.

Working Conditions

Evening and weekend work required during peak times.

Job Duty NameEssential FunctionsDescription of Job Duty

- Oversees initiative operations, ensuring efficient, effective and productive operations
- Devises and manages financial and budgetary plans for the program(s), approves and monitors expenditures
- Develops, implements, administers, and evaluates programs by: conducting research activities within the program, analyzing data, creating reports, reviewing trends, and making program improvement recommendations
- Develops and implements strategies related to outreach, events, communications, development, partnerships and fundraising / funding
- Creates short term and long term plans to achieve mission and objectives for the program
- Oversee graduate student recruitment and admissions, student records, curriculum support, coordinating the accreditation process, managing scholarships and fellowships, and monitoring student progress
- Oversee grant preparation and submission or research administration for the initiative
- Supervise small staff (up to three full time staff)
- Performs all other duties as assigned
