Description

The Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Department of the Fielding School of Public Health (FSPH) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the impacts of climate and emerging pollutant source (e.g., electronic cigarette) on indoor and outdoor air quality and human health. The research activities will include developing models to better understand the impacts of decarbonization policies on air quality at the community scales, applying low-cost air sensors to monitor air quality in environmental justice communities, and conducting laboratory experiments to identify the link between electronic cigarette aerosol physicochemical properties and the biological outcomes.

Professor Yifang Zhu at EHS Department of FSPH is looking for a highly qualified Postdoctoral Researcher with keen interest of multidisciplinary research that involves atmospheric monitoring and modeling, exposure and health effect assessment. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn advanced techniques including advanced atmospheric transport models, state-of-the-art aerosol characterization methods, and high throughput screening. The successful candidate needs possession of hands-on experience in data collection and analysis, model development, aerosol sample collection, and particle physicochemical characterization. Postdoctoral researcher will assist in planning of experiments, methods development, data reduction, and manuscript preparation as part of the research.

This position is available immediately and initial appointment will be 1 year, contingent upon performance, the appointment could be extended. The salary (including full university benefits) will commensurate with experience and set by the University of California pay scale. In addition to research activities, the postdoc will be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate in grant writing activities.

Qualifications: candidate must have completed their PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Environmental Health, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biology or other related field. Additional Qualifications: the ideal candidate needs to have hands-on experience in atmospheric modeling, aerosol sample collection, and particle physicochemical characterization. Applicants who have already served more than 3 years as a Postdoctoral Researcher are not eligible to apply.

UCLA is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1919 and is the second oldest of the ten campuses affiliated with the University of California system. UCLA offers over 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines and enrolls about 26,000 undergraduate and about 12,000 graduate students from the United States and around the world every year.

UCLA features the College of Letters and Science, seven general campus professional schools, and four professional schools for the health sciences. The UCLA College of Letters and Science has 34 academic departments and 900 faculty, and houses the majority of UCLA's 129 undergraduate majors as well as the students in the Graduate Division of Letters and Sciences. The UCLA College Honors Program is also housed in the College. The College of Letters and Science's programs are divided into five academic divisions: humanities, social sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, and the International Institute. UCLA also offers certificate programs, undergraduate degree-credit and continuing education credits for non-full-time students through its UCLA Extension education program.

The 2010 edition of U.S. News & World Report ranked UCLA as the 24th best university in the nation and 32nd best in the world. In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
