    Fort Valley State University is currently accepting applications for a 10-month, appointment for an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the College of Education & Professional Studies.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Be responsible for the quality of instruction, research, and service programs offered in the Elementary/Special Education Program.
    • Completes key assessments and enters data within the mutually agreed upon platform (such as Livetext, SharePoint)
    • Teaches in the Elementary/Special Education programs at the undergraduate.
    • Assists with field supervision and organizes placements for teacher candidates majoring in Special Education:
    • Contacts area systems to arrange Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) for placement of educator candidates (develops network of placements sites)
    • Provides placement and monitoring of all candidates in any field or clinical experience
    • Ensures all placements meet program and CAEP, CEC and GaPSC, standards
    • Coordinates practicum and clinical experience supervisors
    • Observes candidates in lab schools
    • Collaborates with faculty in developing and implementing other field experiences.
    • Collects and reports field and clinical experience data for assessment and program improvements/accreditation purposes
    • Demonstrates knowledge of CEC standards, litigation, legislation, characteristics, assessments, and evidence-based methodology in Special Education
    • Teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
    • Maintains a general overview of the work of students in the department.
    • Participates in professional development through state and national workshops or conferences.
    • Assists with the preparation of program reviews and accreditation. Assist with completing annual reports and reports related to accreditation.
    • Reports to the Dean of the college on the teaching, research, presentations/ publications and service work of graduate students.
    • Requests and compiles reports from program leaders, which are discussed among faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
    • Holds regular office hours.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

  • Preferably a doctorate Degree in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in teaching P-12 students with special needs.
  • Holds a teaching certificate in Special Education, or related field.
  • Ability to clearly articulate a strong scholarly agenda.
  • Strong digital/computer literacy knowledge.
  • Online teaching experience and interest in learning new technical skills preferred.
  • Preferred experience in a higher-education teacher education program.
  • Working conditions

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
