Job Summary

The Assistant Professor in Health and Physical Education will teach, advise, and supervise undergraduate students majoring in Health and Physical Education. Background and experience in pedagogy are preferable. The selected candidate is expected to serve on various departmental, college, and university level committees, and engage in research/ service activities. This is a non-tenure track position.

Duties and Responsibilities

List the primary job duties and responsibilities.

  • Teaches undergraduate health and physical education courses.
  • Evaluates lesson plans in the classroom and in the field.
  • Supervises student teachers and practicum candidates.
  • Serves on departmental, college, and institutional committees.
  • Engages in scholarly activities, attends and presents at professional conferences, and performs service projects.
  • Works collaboratively with P-12 school community.
  • Prepares accreditation reports as needed.
  • Reviews and plans curricula.
  • Attends university functions and meetings.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Assists candidates with the preparation of major assessments such as edTPA and the GACE
  • Enters data into Live text.
  • Assists with data compilation and interpretation for majors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Health/Physical Education (minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline).
  • Experience teaching in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Certified in Health/Physical Education.
  • Documented ability to teach, advise, and supervise field-based programs.
  • Documented ability to infuse technology in teaching.
  • Documented ability to have a collegial relationship with a diverse group of colleagues and students.
  • Documented ability of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working conditions

  • Travel required Travel is required on a limited basis; visiting placement sites, workshops.
  • May work evening/night/weekend work limited to university functions
  • May work outdoors
  • Physical requirements

    Teach 12-15 credit hours of courses in the physically active classroom and maintain office hours (a minimum of 10 hours).
