Job Summary/Basic Function:

As a Hispanic Serving Institution (H.S.I.), Lee College was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to develop and implement strategies that will expand our capacity to serve Hispanic and other low income students in the content areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The grant focuses on three primary areas: improve student service programs, increase STEM degree obtainment among Hispanic and other low-income students, and development of model transfer and articulation agreements between two-year H.S.I.s and four-year institutions in STEM fields. Strategies include intrusive advising to create cohesive educational plans, financial aid nudges, Lee College/Lamar University Dual Admissions agreement, and intrusive transfer experiences. This position is partially grant funded.

This position will report directly to the Director of Career and Transfer Services which is housed within the Retention and Transition Services Department.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guide and support students through the transfer planning process, and help students analyze their interests and skills to develop career goals that are congruent with their chosen major.
  • Advise transfer students – (in person, group session, phone, chat, e-mail, or web) regarding major courses of study, career options, academic planning, program eligibility requirements, degree requirements, and admission requirements of four-year universities.
  • Independently plan and execute presentations to students and faculty/staff, in order to maintain and strengthen a culture of transfer at Lee College.
  • Organize off-campus university tours.
  • Act as a liaison by working closely with the university and college leadership teams to create and maintain a central portal for all university information and events.
  • Collect both quantitative and qualitative data related to each student, major, and caseload.
  • Generate reports based on collected data, conduct program evaluations, report results of evaluations, and contribute to end-of-semester and annual reports on student success, persistence, and retention.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, schedule, lead, and analyze transition activities for transfer students.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining transfer partnerships and articulation agreements with four-year institutions.
  • Conduct assessment of student needs including monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures as they relate to the program services.
  • Participate in evening and weekend special events and activities.
  • Ensure confidentiality of participant records.
  • Maintain the office area in a fashion which exhibits a professional atmosphere.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in professional activities, committees, and training as required.
  • Attend out of town conferences, training, etc., as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Excellent benefits accrue with this full-time position. This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is based on the continuation of the grant and satisfactory job performance. This is a security sensitive position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience in higher education environment in any of the following areas: classroom instruction, student success/advising/counseling, and/or grants
  • Must be proficient in composition, spelling, and proofreading
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and energetic, along with exceptional customer service abilities
  • Must be dependable and demonstrate initiative
  • Exceptional computer skills including expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with superb skills in oral and written communication
  • Solid planning, organization, time management, and filing skills
  • Detail orientated, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Flexible, organized, and creative with the ability to switch gears and move from one task to another with frequent interruptions from a busy phone and constant office visitors
  • Creativity to produce publications and PowerPoint presentations
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s (or higher) degree
  • PeopleSoft experience
  • Bilingual: ability to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish
