The Center for International Security Studies (CISS) in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs provides a home for the study and debate of national and international security at Princeton University and supports a variety of educational, research, enrichment, and outreach activities with the intent of generating new knowledge on issues of fundamental importance and educating the next generation of strategic thinkers and decision makers. It also seeks to establish research and policy links with other institutions around the world.

The program coordinator is the "face" of CISS and interacts directly with internationally recognized academic and foreign policy experts and with the University’s faculty and student body in security studies on a daily basis. The coordinator is responsible for the successful organization and execution of all Center activities including domestic and international conferences, lectures, seminars, crisis simulations, student domestic and international field trips, career mentoring series, an annual international relations program for Members of Parliament from India, and special projects. The coordinator prepares grant and budget proposals for Center projects and has fiscal responsibility and oversight of the Center budget, sponsored research, and faculty research accounts (approximately $800,000). The coordinator serves as the Directors' internal and external liaison to University and WWS offices including Finance and Treasury, Office of Sponsored Research, and Office of Communications.

Responsibilities

The coordinator is responsible for the Center website, annual and interim reports for sponsored research grants, press releases, written materials, overseeing about 2-3 events a week, and event advertising. The manager supervises one student assistant, facilitates the hiring of RAs, coordinates the Center’s dissertation research fellowship application and award process and handles other administrative issues for students, fellows, and employees. The candidate also provides support for one faculty member including preparing class syllabi, reading lists, maintaining class Blackboard sites, faculty calendars, travel arrangements, and financial administration of research accounts.

The position entails decision making on a large range of administrative and financial issues and requires excellent judgment, diplomacy, and superb oral and written communication skills. The manager interacts on a daily basis with internationally recognized academic and foreign policy experts and is responsible for conveying the spirit of Princeton's intellectual community to visiting diplomats and scholars. The position also entails daily interaction and teamwork with student leaders and fellows within CISS on its numerous programs and events.

Qualifications

The applicant should be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to handle multiple and diverse tasks in a fast paced environment and to work independently and prioritize responsibilities. The position also requires discretion in handling confidential materials as well as interpersonal, oral, organizational, and writing skills.

The candidate must be willing to travel domestically and internationally, while guiding a group of around 30 fellows. The candidate will have a high level of responsibility while traveling for the successful execution of student and faculty trips.

The position requires familiarity with University systems including Prime, Concur, Coeus, SAFE, Time Collection and web editing tools as well as Microsoft Office.
