Job Title Lecturer in Political Science
Job Description
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the full-time position of Lecturer in Political Science, beginning Fall 2019. The successful candidate for the appointment will be expected to teach a 4-4 course load. The successful candidate will teach several sections in the introductory American and Texas government sequence for first-year students, while developing and implementing upper level courses that expand the scope of the political science program and provide new options for political science majors. Lecturers at UNT Dallas are also expected to assist in various administrative tasks and provide service to the university and the nearby community.

We are particularly interested in student-centered, innovative, and energetic candidates who can work with incoming freshman students who are enrolled in the UNT Dallas block schedule. These first-year students arrive on campus with a broad range of writing and critical analysis skills. An interest in understanding how to engage such students and keep their interest in the classroom is a plus in this position.

We teach the core government courses (PSCI 1040 and 1050) in a configuration that allows students to compare and contrast Texas and United States constitutional context,
constitutions and government. While we welcome applications from scholars and
instructors who have taught only US government, we will favor candidates who have
also taught Texas government.

The Political Science program is a young one, so we seek candidates who can develop and teach courses in our existing subject areas of American politics, political behavior, international and comparative politics, and public law. We will favor candidates who can develop our public law or international politics course offerings, or create new areas of instruction in public policy, public administration or Latin American politics.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Expectations for Lecturers at UNT Dallas include excellent teaching within the discipline, but also in teaching critical thinking and professional communication. We seek faculty who can connect the academic material to real world applications that serve both the individual student's employment prospects and their communities. Faculty are also expected to participate in some service activities through curriculum development, online course development, student recruitment, program assessment, project development, coordinating service learning, and committee leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

• M.A. in Political Science, Government or another closely related field (Public Administration or Public Policy, for example).
• Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching American and Texas government courses, especially at the introductory freshman and sophomore levels.
• Demonstrated potential for leadership in academic program development.
• Demonstrated and effective written and verbal communication skills at a college level.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Political Science, Government or another closely related field (Public Administration or Public Policy, for example).
• Experience in developing and teaching a range of upper-level political science courses.
• Experience and willingness to develop and teach appropriate online courses in political science.
• Experience in some aspect of local, legislative or executive branch politics; electoral politics campaigns; the legal system; or political journalism.
• Evidence of a demonstrated potential for developing and coordinating service learning and experiential learning programs.
• Experience in building and supervising student organizations.
• Academic experience working on a university campus with a culturally diverse population.

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.
