ACCOUNTING ANALYST
Office of Financial Services

Full-Time, Temporary, Salaried, Administrative Staff Appointment

Reporting to the controller, the accounting analyst will provide analytical and technical accounting assistance to assigned functions including general accounting, grant management, tracking and accounting of business assets and capital projects, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and other tasks as assigned. Through the critical strategic planning process of Workday Financials, this position will help ensure data integrity, create and provide reports, establish and maintain metrics and analysis, develop or refine processes and procedures for the Office of Administrative Financial Services, and assist in the backfill of key business processes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Accounting
  • Research accounts to locate errors and improper entries; identify and correct anomalies and accounting errors
  • Prepare and post journal entries, review journal entries prepared by other department personnel
  • Analyze accounting processes and evaluate for continuous improvement
  • Maintain documentation of office procedures
  • Assist other departments with developing analytical reports and database extracts
  • Help with preparation of financial statements
  • Assist Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll staff as needed, including posting batches, preparing journal entries, and reconciling various balance sheet accounts
Grant Management
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio, including preparing annual and project budgets, forecasting revenue and expenditures, estimating carryover of funds, and ensuring compliance with respective governing agencies
  • Research issues, prepare invoices/billing, and collect funds for the support of restricted fund expenditures
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensure timely submission thereof
  • Coordinate with key personnel at all levels of the College to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines
  • Assist director of administrative financial services to compute, prepare, and apply the indirect cost rate as applicable
  • Compile year-end reports, work papers, and analysis necessary for the independent auditors to complete the yearly audit of the College’s grants
Tax Preparation
  • Assist controller, director of administrative financial services, and payroll manager to compile data for various tax returns (990, 990T, Sales Tax, Federal and State 941, etc.)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in a similar role
  • Relative work experience in higher education or comparably sized accounting operation in a mid-large organization preferred
  • Expertise with grant compliance and reporting
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and accounting/finance
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and support-oriented
  • Proven problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and sound judgement
  • Demonstrated understanding of wage and hourly laws regarding state, federal, and local payroll taxes
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Ability to move around campus is required as is some travel.
