Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious and Theological Studies

St. Edward's University invites applications for a full-time, one-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious and Theological Studies in the area of Catholic Studies to begin Fall, 2019. The person in this position will be expected to teach survey courses such as Introduction to Catholicism and Introduction to Christian Morality as well as upper level courses such Sacramental Theology. The successful candidate will contribute to and support diversity at St. Edward's University.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time teaching responsibilities (4 courses per semester).
  • Teaching responsibilities include courses fulfilling general education requirements and courses in the Catholic Studies major/minor as well as the Religious and Theological Studies major/minor.
  • Assistance with curriculum development in light of areas of expertise.
  • On-going professional development and scholarly activity in area of expertise and in collaboration with faculty colleagues and students.
  • Participation in planning and implementing the departmental (i.e. Religious and Theological Studies) goals and assessments.
  • Participation in departmental, School of Arts and Humanities and University events and committee assignments.
  • Fulfillment of other required faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Manual.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. required in Catholic Studies or Theology, or in a related area.
  • Demonstrated effective teaching at the undergraduate level required.
  • A record or the potential of professional involvement and publication.
  • Educational philosophy consistent with a liberal arts emphasis and the mission of St. Edward's University.
  • Successful completion of an employment and criminal history background check required.
