Job Description:


The Summer Academic Workshop (SAW) is a program designed for first-generation college students, students from working-class backgrounds, and/or students of color. The summer component entails an intensive four week residential program which provides selected students with a rigorous academic transition to college and a lasting support community. Students also engage in leadership development, community excursions, and a series of dialogues with key campus leaders. Students who participate in SAW have higher rates of leadership and engagement than the general student population, and many achieve and sustain academic excellence.


Job Summary:


We are looking for Computer Science Lab Assistants for the Mills College Summer Academic Workshop (SAW). CS Lab Assistants will help participants follow tutorials for MIT App Inventor and help them create their own apps in teams.


Hours: 6-8 hours/week


Rate: $13.80/hour


Dates: July 24 & 26 (2019) and August 2, 7 & 9 (2019)



Requirements:


  • Computer programming experience (including at school)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Availability the afternoons of July 24 and 26 and August 2, 7, and 9

Qualifications (preferred not required):


  • Some college
  • Experience using MIT App Inventor
  • Teaching/tutoring experience
  • Experience working with first generation students, students from working-class backgrounds and/or students of color


Additional Information:


This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a rate of $13.80 per hour.
