Position Description

Full-time, tenure-track position; 4 days per week, 52 weeks per year; reporting to the chair of the Department of Orthodontics.
Primary areas of responsibility include active participation in both graduate and predoctoral teaching, research, and patient care components of the program.

Primary Responsibilities:
Predoctoral program
•Didactic and clinical teaching to dental students (lecture, block rotation)
•Participate in student research projects
•Provide academic advisement and guidance to dental students

Graduate program
•Didactic and clinical teaching to post-graduate residents
•Supervise or participate in resident research projects
•Development of scholarly activities for the residents

•Development of an independent, relevant and sustainable research area
•Ability to obtain extramural funding

Service to the dental school and professional community through participation in committees, school-wide activities, and local & regional professional organizations.

Basic Qualifications

Knowledge of:
•Curriculum management as it relates to orthodontics
•Clinical management of all types of adult and adolescent orthodontic malocclusions, craniofacial anomalies patients, orthognathic surgery patients, Invisalign, and most widely used fixed appliances in current use
•Competency based education and assessment
•Modern pedagogical concepts and application in orthodontic education

•Minimum of three years of experience in research activities

Ability to:
• Lead and function in an active change environment
• Communicate effectively
• Maintain professional composure and demeanor at all times
• Inspire excellence and promote innovations
• Promote vision, mission and core values of the school

•Valid DMD/DDS or equivalent
•Certificate from an Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics
•MS or equivalent degree
•ABO Board certified or eligible

Additional Qualifications

•Board certification is highly desired.
•Advanced credentials such as PhD is preferred
•Previous experience in an academic setting preferred

• Work performed is primarily administrative and teaching/patient care with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone
