Job Description Summary

The Assistant Coordinator will provide support and assistance with overseeing, supervising, implementing and executing fitness programming for Campus Recreation. Assisting with program recruitment, training, creating and supporting fitness programs and initiatives, oversee campus Outreach programs and assist with special department events. This is a
part-time position, approximately 18 hours per week.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Co-manage student and non-student part-time employees with recruitment, hiring, and training in designated fitness program areas
  • Develop, update and file employee records throughout employment
  • Co-Develop scheduled offerings, ensure coverage and instruction in specified program areas
  • Evaluate employee performance, document and record staff learning outcomes
  • Lead campus-wide Fitness Outreach program offerings to WFU community
  • Responsible for Fitness Outreach program data, staffing and community marketing
  • Co-manage, create and oversee training development needs ensuring fitness staff remain “active in status” with certification(s) and employee requirements
  • Schedule, lead and provide assistance with in-house fitness workshops as well as assist/coordinate departmental certification offerings 
  • Supervise, monitor and track equipment maintenance and needs in designated program areas
  • Assess and report program areas tracking participation and program offerings monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Provide proactive communication with studio offerings, program policies and hours of operation via web, TV, etc.
  • Develop and assist with marketing initiatives for special events and programs
  • Create, organize, develop and oversee both revenue and non-revenue based program streams
  • Assist with annual budget preparations
  • Recommend fitness program equipment purchases while overseeing potential acquisition and installation of newly acquired equipment
  • Design and lead programs for Wake Forest University students, faculty, and staff

Other Functions:

  • Assists with the schedule development for small group training and/or group fitness offerings

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • Prior work experience working in the fitness field.
  • Experience with fitness programming and management.
  • Experience with budget development and allocation.
  • Basic computer skills, word, excel and formatting.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid or ability to obtain certification.
  • Certification in one or more of the following: ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM, CSCS or A related accredited certifying body.
  • Evening and weekend work required as needed, flexible schedule required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Current Certification(s) and experience as a personal trainer, small group trainer and/or group fitness instructor.
  • Secondary certification from one or more of the above accredited certifying bodies.
  • Facility management experience.
  • Digital and social media familiarization.
