The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for the position of Admissions Counselor.

The University of Cincinnati is a premier, public, urban research university with an enrollment of almost 46,000 students. UC attracts students from all 50 of the United States and from 110 countries outside of the U.S. DAAP is one of the most comprehensive schools of art and design in the U.S. Programs within DAAP are ranked among the very best in both a world and national class. DAAP has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2,000 students.

Reporting to Student Affairs, the Admissions Counselor coordinates the recruitment of undergraduate students and supports the college’s admissions activities. The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced environment; the ability to handle work distractions; and the ability to be successful as part of a team. The person in this position will need to manage their time efficiently, respect issues of confidentiality, and pay attention to details.

Responsibilities

    Plan, design, evaluate, modify, and coordinate DAAP’s recruitment activities and strategyUnderstand the enrollment targets of each program and the corresponding recruitment needsCoordinate DAAP’s involvement in and represent DAAP at on- and off-campus admissions events, college fairs, and high school presentationsServe as the primary contact for prospective students, their families, and high school/college personnel; utilize a student-centered approach to assist and advise prospective studentsMeet with prospective students and their parents as well as other constituents; respond to phone and written inquiries, including the DAAP admissions email accountImplement and explain DAAP admissions policies and procedures and answer questions on academic programs and campus lifeEstablish and maintain relationships with secondary school and community officials to promote the DAAP undergraduate programsCollaborate with a diverse group of staff, faculty, and students to complete responsibilitiesPlan and execute small- and large-scale eventsAssist in the development, distribution, and maintenance of communications with prospective students and other constituents, including print materials, webpages, and social media accountsCoordinate the DAAP AmbassadorsMaintain records and prepare ad hoc and periodic reports; generate reports and assist in analyzing and interpreting dataParticipate actively in staff meetings and provide support, input, and feedback on DAAP Student Affairs activitiesAssist with orientation and student retention activitiesEvaluate applications for admissions and make admission decisions within established guidelinesRepresent DAAP through participation in New Student Enrollment Network and other university committees concerning recruitmentProvide general administrative student support services as neededMay serve as a departmental liaison with other offices and departments at the university as neededMay attend professional meetings (local, state, national)May provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.)Perform related duties based on departmental need

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related area with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associates degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years' experience. Experience must be in university admissions and/or counseling high school or college students or related field. Position requires valid driver’s license.

Position Details

    Comprehensive UC benefits packageType of Appointment: Full-TimeWork Location: 5470 Aronoff (Clifton/Uptown Campus West)Work Hours: Often Monday through Friday between 8AM and 5PM. Recruitment activities may take place during evening and weekend hours.Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. unassisted to transport recruitment materials. Long periods of sitting and standing required.
