The Experimental Neutrino Group at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position to conduct research centered on Data Analysis and development of state-of-the-art High-Performance Computing (HPC) tools for the NOvA and DUNE long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiments.

NOvA is the present flagship experiment in operation at Fermilab, seeking to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy, probe CP violation in the leptonic sector, and measure the neutrino mixing parameters with unprecedented precision. DUNE will be the largest neutrino experiment yet, representing the largest US HEP on-shore effort over the next decade, and will provide definitive answers to some of the most puzzling questions in neutrino physics and beyond. The Experimental Neutrino Group at the University of Cincinnati has leading roles on the NOvA, DUNE, and MINOS/MINOS+ experiments, as well as on the HEP Data Analytics on HPC project at Fermilab, funded by the Department of Energy’s SciDAC-4 program. Further, the Department’s High-Energy Physics group has active programs in both experimental and theoretical research, with experimental efforts including the BELLE, BELLE II, BaBar, and LHCb Intensity Frontier experiments, and theoretical efforts focused on flavor physics and dark matter.

We are seeking highly-motivated applicants with a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics or a closely related area. Preference will be given to candidates with prior expertise in analysis of particle physics data sets, and significant software development experience. The successful candidate will be preferably based at Fermilab, and will be expected to make substantial contributions to research on NOvA and DUNE, while having the opportunity to use the most advanced supercomputing centers and interact with scientists at Fermilab, Argonne National Lab, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in developing HPC tools to support that research. We will begin reviewing applications on July 22, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

Interested and qualified candidates must complete our online application at https://jobs.uc.edu In addition to the online application you must attach a current copy of your resume or CV. In addition to these items, you must also include a cover letter, not to exceed one page, a statement describing research interests, and a list of publications, all in a PDF format. Please use the Additional Documents feature in the system for these attachments. You will also be asked to respond to a question describing your experience with, and commitment to diversity. Appicants should also arrange to have at least three letters of reference sent separately to ucphysics@ucmail.uc.edu. We will begin reviewing applications as they are received and continue to accept and review applications until the position has been filled.

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Professor Alex Sousa by email at alex.sousa@uc.edu.

The University of Cincinnati, as a multi-national and culturally diverse university, is committed to providing an inclusive, equitable and diverse place of learning and employment. As part of a complete job application you will be asked to include a Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion statement.

As a UC employee, and an employee of an Ohio public institution, if hired you will not contribute to the federal Social Security system, other than contributions to Medicare. Instead, UC employees have the option to contribute to a state retirement plan (OPERS, STRS) or an alternative retirement plan (ARP).
