Job Description:


The Coordinator for Workforce Education is responsible for coordinating the effective delivery of workforce-specific education for Dutchess Community College, in compliance with all federal, state and college guidelines, and in collaboration with program leads and the Workforce Development Liaison. Reporting to an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs , the Coordinator ensures the relevance, quality, and viability of DCC's Workforce Education through ongoing assessment and continuous improvement.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Draft program and course descriptions in collaboration with the Associate Dean;
  • Review and update programs and course outlines in collaboration with the Workforce Liaison and the Associate Dean;
  • Develop new program- and course-proposals in response to local, regional, and national trends in collaboration with the Workforce Liaison and the Associate Dean;
  • Ensure that state licensure and certification program documentation and contracts are filed and current;
  • Interface with instructors, program chairs, and Scheduling Office to develop schedule of offerings for each term;
  • Collaborate with Student Services to increase student enrollment and success;
  • Collaborate with community partners and the Workforce Liaison on workforce education initiatives;
  • Coordinate with the Associate Dean and the office of Communications and Public Relations regarding marketing and advertising;
  • Maintain and develop systems to monitor and document student enrollment in collaboration with Registration Services and Student Financial Services;
  • Approve or deny student refunds in collaboration with Student Financial Services;
  • Advise students and potential students;
  • Investigate student grievances or complaints and implement solutions;
  • Interview all student-candidates prior to internship/externship placements;
  • Coordinate with Accommodative Services when students with disabilities register;
  • Recruit, interview, and hire instructors and support personnel;
  • Supervise instructors and support personnel;
  • Coordinate with Career and Employment Services to develop and host student success events such as Annual Job Fair a d program-specific Career Expos;
  • Serve on internal committees such as Curriculum, ASC, Data Standards, etc;
  • Coordinate activities with funding agencies such as Dutchess One-Stop, ACCES-VR, Path Stone, etc;
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.



Requirements:


  • Master's Degree in education or related field;
  • 4+ years working in workforce development and/or adult and continuing education;
  • Proven ability in leading teams and staff development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the knowledge, skills and processes needed to select and evaluate curriculum as well as instructional methods in workforce programs for adult learners;
  • Excellent computer skills, including a high level of proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications;
  • Concern for student needs in a demanding academic context as well as flexibility, patience, and professional integrity;
  • Success at managing a wide array of projects and initiatives and ability to work in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and project management skills.

Preferred:


Experience in both instructional and supervisory roles.

Dutchess Community College has been in Dutchess County for more than 50 years. We have the reputation of being the best community college in the state for academic excellence and the success of our graduates. Students who transfer to a four-year school after Dutchess do better and graduate at a higher rate than students who transfer from other colleges. Plus, we currently have the lowest tuition of any college or university in the state.

Our main campus is in Poughkeepsie, with a major extension site in Wappingers Falls. Students can also take DCC classes at high schools throughout the county.

We offer associate degrees and certificates in more than 60 program areas. Some of these programs are occupationally-oriented, designed to provide the skills students need to enter the job market immediately upon graduation. Other programs are designed to provide the first two years' of study toward a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. The certificate programs provide a condensed program in a particular field of study and usually can be completed in one or two semesters of study.

There are three different types of degrees from which students can choose:

The Associate in Arts Degree (A.A.) is used primarily for transfer programs that lead to the bachelor of arts degree at a four-year college or university. It may be used for general liberal arts programs.

The Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) may be used for certain occupationally-oriented studies, but is primarily designed to serve science or professionally-related programs that lead to transfer to a bachelor of science degree at a four-year college or university.

The Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) is structured as an occupationally-oriented degree. However, it may be appropriate as a transfer degree to certain types of specialized baccalaureate program such as the bachelor's of technology.
