Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Texas (UNT) is seeking applications and nominations for a Welch Chair position to start within the 2018/19 academic year (tentative). The successful candidate will conduct research in any EXPERIMENTAL area in chemistry, engage in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses (1 per long semester), and undertake administrative functions in the Department and UNT commensurate with strategic plans. The candidate is expected to assume a proactive role in steering Department growth efforts in research infrastructure and personnel en route to reinforcing UNT's R1 Carnegie status.

We are seeking candidates with outstanding records of scholarly accomplishments, leadership in their institution and broader scientific community in chemistry/STEM fields, dedication to education and mentoring students and junior researchers, and commitment to sustaining a collegial atmosphere. The Welch Chair will provide scientific leadership necessary to propel the Department to higher levels of accomplishment, have a synergistic impact on existing research programs, participate in externally-funded research, and demonstrate a commitment to innovation in undergraduate and graduate education and research mentoring.

The Department of Chemistry is recognized for its strong research thrusts in all areas of chemistry (analytical/biological/inorganic/materials/organic/physical, both experiment and theory). It currently has 23 full-time faculty, nearly 100 graduate and 300 undergraduate majors, and serves > 5,000 undergraduate students annually.

Nationally, UNT is rated as a top-tier research university, denoted Doctoral University: Highest Research Activity (R1) in the Carnegie Classification. UNT ranks among the top universities in Texas for annual doctoral degree production and, with 38,000 students, is the 4th-largest in Texas. UNT is the most comprehensive university in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, America's 4th-largest and fastest-growing metropolitan area. The Denton campus, founded in 1890, is the flagship of the UNT System, located in a town of 134,000 people about 35 miles north of Dallas or Ft. Minimum Qualifications:
Having attained tenure and full professorship at a U.S. institution and spearheaded an internationally-recognized scholarly program, evident by high-quality/quantity publications with a strong record of citations thereof and by successful recruitment/retention/graduation/job placement of Ph.D. students -- with a commitment to sustaining such a record long-term at UNT.
