Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow, FL Coastal Center for Human Health, Fort Pierce, FL.

With over 30,000 students from all 50 states and over 180 countries, 21 intercollegiate teams, 180 plus degree programs, and an administration that thrives on discovery and excellence, FAU is pushing the boundaries of higher education. Florida Atlantic's faculty and staff are trailblazers and innovators with a passion for finding creative solutions while advancing science, art, and technology in all disciplines. Our work environment is a hub of cultures from across the nation and the world, making FAU a place where collaboration flourishes.

The Fellow will work with an interdisciplinary team of Investigators to better understand and describe the dynamics of the Indian River Lagoon, a 260 km long tidally influenced estuary on the Atlantic coast of Florida surrounded by intense urban development. A wealth of data has been collected through Center activities, supplementing rich historical data sets collected with autonomous observatories and by local water management districts. Available data include a wide range of physical (CTD, currents), chemical (nutrients, pH, toxin profiles, etc), biological (phytoplankton, upper trophic levels, bacteria, seagrasses, genetics, etc), and optical (satellite and drone ocean color, optical properties, etc) parameters. Results are also available from ongoing hydrodynamic and ecosystem modeling efforts. The Fellow will synthesize available data and results to describe ecosystem diversity throughout the IRL, the interconnectivity of distinct subregions, and associated potential impacts to the local population.
