The specialist writes and edits content for use in the College’s marketing and communications channels that reach internal faculty, staff and student audiences; external members of the FSU alumni community; prospective students, faculty and staff members; legislators; industry partners; and members of the general public. Prepares visual assets to complement copy. Content includes original news and feature articles, press releases, social media content, marketing content, information graphics, HTML emails and newsletters, and more, promoting student, faculty and staff achievements, college programs and news. Specialist physically attends events to generate coverage and demonstrate engagement.
The media specialist works with the director in preparing content that meets established media, communications, and marketing strategy and that is consistent with established messaging direction. Also works with the director and college development officers to create fundraising appeal content and other materials to support giving efforts tied to the annual fund, capital campaigns, the Great Give, year-end giving and more.
Posts content to college website and social media channels as directed, and is proficient in tagging, SEO writing, and basic data analytics. Reviews daily news clips and departmental news and social media pages for articles to promote and story ideas for use on the College’s channels. Uses email marketing software to send designed HTML emails and newsletters to college audiences.
Works with interns and edits intern-created content for posting to college channels and placement in print materials. Maintains relationships with freelance writers and photographer to augment internally created content for College channels and print materials as needed. Other duties as assigned by supervisor to support the communication goals for the College.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience. Note: Higher education can substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.
Experiencing in writing and editing content for marketing and communications.
Ability to write and develop visual content and tailor it for use across digital platforms such as websites, social media, crowdfunding, and email.
Knowledge of corporate communications strategies.
Knowledge of industry standards in media and communications.
Experience in managing web content and using email marketing software.
Experience using Adobe Creative suite.
Experience applying journalistic practices and standards.
Experience using Associated Press or other style guides.Preferred Knowledge of Drupal highly preferred.Anticipated Salary Range Based on experience, starting salary ranges from mid $30,000s to mid $40,000s.Pay Plan This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
