Provide leadership in the creative, fiscal, and operational management of the Roy H. Park School of Communications Park Productions and its complimentary organization, The Studio. Collaborate with students, staff, faculty. alumni and other contracted professionals in the development of media content and programming for traditional and emerging platforms such as television and web that either is sponsored or is seeking contracting, licensing or other funding and distribution. Manage media projects including the design, scripting, producing and editing of video and digital content. Oversee project and operating budgets, solicit internal and external funding and meet revenue targets. Provide learning opportunities for students to develop their skills and knowledge of content production and distribution and client relations. Ensure compliance with Ithaca College policies and procedures and with state and federal regulatory agencies.

Position/Job Responsibilities

1.Oversee and manage the operation of Park Productions, a student-powered media production house within the Roy H. Park School of Communications that creates media content on a contract basis for internal and external clients or content that is grant-funded. Oversee and manage its subsidiary co-curricular organization The Studio which incubates student ideas for media content and seeks to create opportunities for them to monetize and distribute this content.

2. Work with clients to develop budgets and proposals for content. Develop production plans, select students and other contract personnel and oversee production and post-production of video and digital projects. Ensure that projects meet legal requirements for securing rights, developing and executing appropriate contracts and paying production personnel.

3. Recruit and mentor students working in Park Productions to provide learning opportunities in project management, production and post-production, client relations, and distribution. Recruit and mentor students involved in The Studio to provide opportunities for them to develop and pitch media concepts that can be monetized and/or distributed beyond the campus.

4.Manage all Park Productions and The Studio, develop grant opportunities and prepare grant applications; develop bids and proposals for external projects; appropriately allocate operating budgets and project budget resources, and meet annual revenue targets.

5.Recruit, select, supervise, and mentor student staff and assistants; work to integrate faculty, staff, alumni, and external media professionals’ expertise into the operations of Park Productions and The Studio. Evaluate the work of student assistants and direct personnel actions including appointment, promotion, and dismissals. Meet regularly with student managerial staff to coordinate, guide and monitor activities and operations.

6. Develop and update appropriate Park Productions and The Studio policies and procedures, including job descriptions, rules, and regulations and regulations for the use of the rented space for The Studio.

7.Conduct community and professional outreach, including building a network of professional contacts, mentors for students, potential collaborators and clients. Manage events such as pitch sessions, visiting artists/ guest professionals, and student film festivals.

8. Maintain a current knowledge of the media production and distribution landscape and proficiency with current production and post-production hardware and software. Participate in researching and proposing new hardware and software for use for Park Productions and The Studio.

9. Serve as public spokesperson for the Roy H. Park School of Communications and Park Production / the Studio at recruiting events, professional symposia, guest visits, etc.

Position/Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field and a minimum of 5 years direct experience in managing and executing media production and post-production projects for grants, external clients and/or public distribution. Demonstrated ability to organize and effectively mentor students to conceptualize and produce media content for external distribution. Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills; ability to oversee multiple projects and work with various internal and external constituencies and various communication professionals; ability to manage budgets for complex projects. Master’s degree in communications or related field preferred.

Park Productions and The Studio are two of seven co-curricular student media organizations within the Roy H. Park School of Communications and provide students with opportunities to put their classroom skills into practice in professionally-oriented situations. Park Productions performs contract media production for clients while The Studio incubates student media concepts for possible future funding and distribution. Both organizations seek to provide paid opportunities for students and to be a source of revenue to the college.
