General Description

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, the director will create, coordinate, supervise, and track the activities outlined in the Equity Plan. This would include, but not be limited to, overall program oversight, coordination of core matriculation services, faculty/staff support and training, and state reporting and compliance processes.

Job Duties

Areas of responsibility may include the following:

  • Provide direct supervision and oversight to the Student Success Program.
  • Collaborate with Academic and Student Services, to create and implement activities in the Equity Plan.
  • Collaborate with the office of Research, Planning and Institutional Effectiveness to develop and monitor appropriate tracking tools to measure student success.
  • Communicate District and Statewide information relating to student success and equity with other District directors, coordinators, faculty, and staff.
  • Prepare annual program expenditure and program plan reports relating to student success and equity in collaboration with Student Services Dean.
  • Provide recommendations for various phases and operations of the matriculation process including educational planning, assessment, orientation, and advisement and follow up; provide feedback and suggestions to Student Services Dean regarding the effectiveness of the matriculation process and procedures.
  • Attend professional training regarding student success and equity.
  • Monitor, maintain, and track multiple budgets regarding student success and equity.
  • Collaborate closely with the office of Technology Services to ensure proper data collection and reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Welcome Center to guide and streamline the registration and matriculation process for incoming high school students.
  • Provide equitable services and availability to Hanford, Tulare, and Visalia Campuses.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution and
  • One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.

Desirable Qualification
  • Experience managing a student service program is highly desirable.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate to provide information over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to remember key information and concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard.

The hiring committee is seeking evidence of the following:
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of leadership, management and supervision.
  • Purpose, mission and goals of the COS Community College District.
  • District organization, operations and budget.
  • Laws, regulations, restrictions and requirements related to college admissions, records, financial aid programs and other assigned programs.
  • Budget preparation, implementation and administration.
  • Curriculum development at both the course and program level.
  • Student services theory and practice.
  • Needs, interests and concerns of various groups of community college students.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.


Ability to:
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to staff involved in assigned programs and services.
  • Communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and programs related to enhanced use of computer technology in the delivery of services to students.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural and disability backgrounds of community college students and staff
  • Prepare and administer budgets.
  • Work on multi-projects; meet deadlines.
  • Stay current with trends and technological advancements in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Work cooperatively in an environment of shared governance by maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff and community organizations.
  • Interpret, apply and explain district policies and legal regulations and requirements
  • Select, assign, orient, train, supervise, counsel, discipline and evaluate performance of direct subordinates.
  • Work cooperatively with other educational institutions and agencies (i.e. universities, Chancellor's Office, other community colleges, county office of education and K-12 schools).

Organization

College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
