MiraCosta College in coastal, north San Diego County, California, invites applications for an interim Dean of Academic Information Services position beginning in August 2019 and continuing for approximately one year.
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instructional Services, the Dean will be responsible for academic and administrative computing, including academic computing labs; media components; administration of the learning resources programs, including library operations and the library science curriculum.

Compensation for the interim dean will be based on the 2019-20 Academic Administrators Salary Schedule and will not be less than $170,096 per year, to be prorated based on the actual number of contract days. This position will be subject to the academic administrators’ working conditions manual.Benefits

OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT:

Under general policy direction, plan, organize, integrate and direct the work and programs of an assigned school, campus or administration department; participate actively in shared governance activities and initiatives; work in close cooperation with other instructional and administrative deans; provide expert professional assistance and leadership to the President and executive management on district-wide programs and strategies for achieving the district’s mission and institutional goals within areas of campus responsibility; and perform related duties as assigned.Distinguishing Characteristics Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.Plan, organize, direct, oversee, lead, integrate and evaluate the work of faculty and classified managers and staff in an assigned school, campus or administration department; with department chairs and managers, manage and direct development, implementation and evaluation of annual program plans, goals and objectives, work processes, systems and procedures to achieve district goals, objectives and standards; develop and work with faculty and staff to manage and monitor budgets for personnel, facilities, equipment and instructional materials; track program funding allocations and expenditures to ensure compliance with legal mandates.
2.Provide day-to-day leadership and work with school, campus or administration department academic and classified staff to ensure excellence in educational opportunities and student services supportive of high student and staff achievement, innovation, best practices, stewardship and fiscal prudence.
3.Manage and participate in the selection of full-time and associate faculty; coordinate associated employment processes with Human Resources; conduct and/or facilitate new faculty and/or staff orientations; monitor teaching load assignments; oversee and ensure the timely evaluation of faculty; encourage faculty in their continuing professional development; work to promote and maintain a collegial environment; chair faculty tenure review processes; oversee, facilitate and/or act as a final adjudicator in faculty, staff, student and community conflict resolution and grievance processes.
4.Direct and manage the performance of classified administrators and staff; direct and oversee the selection of managers and staff; establish performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development, in accordance with district human resources policies and labor contract agreements.
5.Coordinate and/or participate in the district’s institutional planning processes; manage and oversee a variety of research initiatives, including research on student equity and success outcome measures, to inform strategic and program planning efforts; coordinate, facilitate and participate in regular program reviews.
6.Participate actively in the life of the college and its shared governance processes by serving on district committees, task forces and councils; coordinate, assign, direct and/or participate in work on projects associated with accreditation.
7.Work with faculty, staff and administration to ensure compliance with California Code of Regulations Title 5, accreditation standards and Board Policies and Administrative Procedures; work with faculty and staff in evaluating changes in regulations and standards and determining collegial means to address changes and ensure compliance.
8.Provide leadership in the coordination of state, local and regional collaborations; oversee the development of grant applications and administration of grants.
9.Manage and oversee systems and procedures for the acquisition and maintenance of data in accordance with state regulations; direct or participate in preparation of periodic and end-of-year reports.
10.Stay abreast of relevant trends and engage in personal professional development programs and activities to maximize contributions to the college and the community.

To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
1.Possession of a master’s degree in a field of study relevant to this assignment from an accredited college or university (a postsecondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation); AND
2.At least one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience relevant to this assignment; AND
3.Possession of the minimum requirements to serve as a faculty member at the community college level (see the 2018 Handbook of “Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges” at https://californiacommunitycolleges.cccco.edu/Portals/0/Reports/2019/CCCCO_Report_Min_Qualifications-ADA-Final.pdf); AND
4.Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, ethnic, disability, and academic diversity of community college students, faculty, and staff.
1.Degree in Educational Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Higher Education Administration, Library/Information Science, or related field.
2.One year of successful management experience within the last five years in a field related to information technology.
3.Experience in and knowledge of information technology with the ability to provide district leadership in technologically-based instruction, library networks, computer networks, multi-site information systems, and PeopleSoft or other integrated software applications.
4. Collaborative management style and administrative experience compatible with MiraCosta College’s commitment to collegial governance.
5.Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.
A valid California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance program.Physical Effort
