Job Summary

The Coordinator of Summer Programs (CSP) reports to the Director of Summer Programs (DSP) and has major responsibility for implementing the strategic marketing plan for Summer Programs. The CSP will contribute to the marketing strategy, to include: content creation for website and marketing collateral, some creative design work, seeking new marketing partnerships and leveraging existing relationships. The CSP is the primary contact for new marketing initiatives, advises the DSP on new and existing marketing platforms and represents Summer Programs at conferences and recruitment events. The CSP serves as chief point of contact for the public, including potential and current students and families, press, educators, advertising partners, etc. The CSP also has primary responsibility for the residential life component of Summer Programs in matters such as student life, co-curricular program delivery and supervision of residential life staff for Summer Programs. The CSP regularly assists faculty with curriculum design and planning for summer academic programs.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a major contributor to the marketing strategy for Summer Programs in Online Education (OE) for the purposes of recruiting students. Holds primary responsibility for implementation and oversight of the marketing strategy including trade show marketing and in-bound marketing.
  • Negotiates with vendors and serves as primary contact for advertising partners. Researches Summer Program fair events and makes recommendations about participation. Responsible for purchasing and making arrangements for exhibiting at conferences, trade shows, and recruitment events to publicize Summer Programs. Represents Summer Programs at trade shows, conferences and recruitment events.
  • Monitors web presence and web/print ads. Uses Google analytics to drive marketing decision-making. Develops content for website.
  • Holds primary responsibility for hiring and training summer residential life staff. Supervises residential life staff and develops co-curricular programming for Summer Programs (field trips, workshops, intramural sports, etc.) for pre-college and college students.
  • Works closely with academic departments to ensure that faculty teaching courses have the resources and supplies needed for their programs.
  • Responsible for implementation of residential life protocols such as the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Functions as Program Coordinator for the EducationUSA program and/or other summer programs. Supervises program staff. Approves co-curricular activities. Assists the DSP with budget administration for each.
  • Assists the DSP with hiring decisions and training for Summer Programs Office staff. Provides administrative support as needed to the DSP, Faculty Directors and Residence Life staff. Assists in program, protocol, and residence life planning.
  • Works closely with numerous campus departments including: University Relations, Residential Life, Dean of Students Office, International Programs Office and UMass Police Department on marketing campaigns to coordinate program logistics and bring greater visibility to Summer Programs.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned or required to meet department, executive area/division and University goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Four years of experience in educational administration.
  • Experience with print, web, trade show, conference or convention marketing.
  • Adept with a wide range of software packages and applications, including Canva, Adobe suite, Microsoft Office suite, Google Analytics.
  • Familiar with principles of inbound marketing and trade show marketing.
  • Understand the fundamentals of website design and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
  • Demonstrate capacity, skill and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality and be familiar with FERPA regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with pre-college U.S. and international student populations.

Additional Details

UMass Summer Pre-College Programs offers classes and college experiences to students who are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school. Summer Programs staff work during the academic year to build and market a roster of programs with extra-curricular activities and then maintain an appropriate environment for minors in residence at UMass Amherst in the summer through the implementation and administration of departmental and University regulations.

The purpose of the Education USA High School Academy (sponsored by the U.S. State Department) is to provide a pre-college experience to international students so that they understand what comprises attending a U.S. institution. Program content includes explanations of U.S. higher education, differences in the types of institutions (e.g., large, small, public, private, community college), scholarship application processes, the culture of campuses (particularly for first year students), and the college application process including the preparation of a personal statement. Students go on visits to college campuses, engage with American students, and do some SAT/TOEFL preparation.

Work Schedule

  • M-F, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Some nights and weekends required.
