Position Overview

The Accommodations Specialist/Exam Coordinator is a highly detailed individual with primary oversight of the coordination and delivery of accommodated exams for Butler students with disabilities. As a member of a strong collaborative team, the Accommodations Specialist/Exam Coordinator works directly with students, team members, student workers, and colleagues across campus to provide excellent disability-related services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the coordination, set up, proctoring, and overall delivery of  4,000+ accommodated exams each year; acts as a exam reader/scribe as needed
  • Cordially greets and assists students, families, faculty, and staff
  • Ensures timely, secure, and accurate storage and delivery of exams
  • Collaborates with team members to develop and facilitate other types of accommodations including assistance with notetaking
  • Maintains detailed records and spreadsheets in order to track and report all relevant exam information
  • Handles and maintains private information in a confidential and appropriate manner
  • Documents and case notes interactions as directed
  • Utilizes specialized technology and assistive equipment;trains others as needed
  • Provides departmental support to disability-related projects as assigned
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties as directed
  • Serves as a backup to team members as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team based, fast paced environment
  • Well developed customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage numerous details in a demanding environment
  • Desire to work with people with disabilities; direct experience working with people with disabilities is preferred
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and the ability to develop proficiency with specialized hardware and software
  • Strong skills in working with a diverse group with various disability related needs/concerns
  • Professional experience and proficiency with assistive technology such as JAWS, Kurzweil 3000, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Sonocent, and specialized scanning software is preferred
  • Ability to attend off-site training sessions as needed
  • Ability to work collaboratively and congenially with others across campus

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; 1-2 years of college preferred
  • 1-2 years professional experience in an educational setting; experience working with a disability-based office in an educational environment is preferred
  • Professional experience at the higher education level is preferred

Working Conditions

  • Fast paced outer office staffed by multiple employees working collaboratively in a collegial manner to provide a wide variety of direct services
  • Ongoing contact with a diverse group with various disability-related needs and concerns
  • Position is full time, 12 months
