Marketing Manager, Continuing Legal Education - Georgetown University Law Center

The Marketing Manager plays an integral role in the day-to-day business of the Department, and works closely with the Executive Director and the Senior Directors to create strategy for long and short-term planning. S/he oversees the planning and executing of all marketing activities to expand the reach, revenue, and relationships of the department's programs and services to the legal market nationally and internationally. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Marketing Strategy
  • Manages the strategic marketing plan development for the department which includes, in-person and online CLE programs, Executive Education opportunities, academic conferences, distance learning initiatives, and any additional specialized programs.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director, Senior Directors, and the Business Operations Manager to develop the annual marketing budget.
  • Researches, compiles, and analyzes all previous marketing and attendee data, and prepares detailed analysis reports on the attendee composition, response rate, and financial performance of all marketing initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with department Program Attorneys, CLE program chairs, Advisory Boards, and planning committees to effectively market CLE programs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Sr.Director of Executive Education, Executive Education Coordinator, and Law Center Communications team to effectively market Executive Education initiatives.
  • Works with outside vendors to develop and implement online marketing plans.
  • Studies and implements up-to-date methods of direct mail marketing and digital marketing, formulates an annual marketing plan for the department, identifies and defines market areas and groups, and analyzes marketing efforts of CLE and Executive Education competitors.
  • Develops customer profiles and detailed, customized, marketing plans targeted toward the subsequent programs, online initiatives, products, or training's offered.

Marketing Material
  • Manages the production of all promotional pieces and the dissemination of approximately 1,000,000 promotional pieces (including by electronic means) annually.
  • Develops the design of promotional pieces, using appropriate and attractive layout, color, and print.
  • Assures the professional and topical appearance of all promotional pieces, utilizing the unique reputation of Georgetown Law and its accompanying brand.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees implementation of a departmental social media strategy with the goal of better connecting the department to our attendees, speakers, and Board Members, and adding value to the legal community.
  • Manages each step of the printing process, including the appropriate timing, making contacts with printing, graphic design, and mailing house vendors, and ensuring timely delivery to potential customers and clients at a fair market price.
  • Implements marketing plans through the careful coordination of mailing to Law Center alumni, previous CLE participants, people from rented lists, and people from names provided by faculty members and others.
  • Requests and studies annual bids from vendors, makes decisions on which vendors to employ, and works carefully with these multiple vendors for both in-person and online programs.
  • Works closely with the Business Operations Manager to ensure the completion of various forms associated with the Financial Affairs Department's contract assembly guidelines.
  • Negotiates agreements with outside organizations to implement joint marketing ventures and with list brokers to procure rented lists in order to reach the determined target audience.

Tracking and Reporting
  • Manages the marketing functionality within the database, as well as the mailing list inquiries and functionality.
  • Oversees the input of departmental prospects into the database, and the communication stream with those prospects.
  • Works closely with the Program Assistant in managing the quality of internal mailing lists.
  • Develops and executes reports from the database that support the overall marketing function within the department.
  • Develops and executes surveys through survey software in order to conduct marketing research as needed.

Sponsors
  • Manages the sponsor/exhibitor program for the department, as well as the patron program for the Corporate Counsel Institute.
  • Manages relationships with co-sponsors as appropriate for marketing needs.
  • Maintains a database of prospective and active exhibitors and sponsors.
  • Creates, updates, and distributes promotional materials and agreement forms to potential exhibitors and sponsors of the benefits of participation.
  • Works closely with appropriate University Departments, including University Counsel and Financial Affairs, to negotiate and finalize agreements.
  • Conducts research to discover new potential sponsors, and works to develop long-term and mutually beneficial relationships with current and prospective sponsors with a goal of increasing sponsorship revenue annually.
  • Conducts research on competitor sponsorship opportunities to insure that our sponsor and exhibitor pricing and benefits are competitively composed and priced.

Website Design and Management
  • Provides leadership and guidance fortheDepartment's overall website vision.
  • Works with the Marketing and Program Assistant and oversees the website's design, functionality, content, navigation scheme, keyword selection, and placement.
  • Facilitates WordPress content management system.
  • Supervises the work of the Marketing and Program Assistant as it relates to their work on the website and marketing efforts for the department.
  • Assists with recruiting, training, performance evaluations, and handling personnel issues associated with this position.
  • Monitors performance of the Program Assistant concerning the ability to meet the principal account abilities within the position description.
  • Develops opportunities for the Program Assistant to grow professionally within the job responsibilities.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • 3-5 years of progressively challenging business experience
  • Knowledge of marketing theory, applications, and various software packages, including spreadsheets, word processing, relational databases, and survey software
  • Ability to work proficiently in web site content management systems and to learn new technologies quickly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, great attention to detail, and good negotiating skills
  • Ability to balance many tasks and projects at one time and to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well to persons in the legal profession
  • .Creativity and planning skills are essential

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct marketing and digital marketing experience
  • Experience with continuing adult education, recruitment of sponsors, Salesforce, and events will be helpful
  • Experience in the legal community
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software will be helpful
