The Assistant Director provides direction and leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Financial Aid to implement financial aid policies, procedures, and initiatives which support the goals and objectives of the office and the university.

Accountabilities

This position will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities:
Role focused on providing leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Financial Aid to implement financial aid policies, procedures, and initiatives which support the goals and objectives of the office and the university. Accountable for determining the financial aid eligibility of prospective and current students and assuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. Accountable for providing top level customer service, advice, and counseling to students and families as they make decisions about college planning and financing. Expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out job responsibilities. Attention to detail and accountable for meeting deadlines.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

- A minimum of three years’ experience in a Financial Aid Office.
- Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis.
- Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interact collegially with students, faculty, staff, and visitors from different backgrounds on a daily basis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a high comfort level with public speaking before large groups is required, and an ability to effectively engage audiences through dynamic oral presentations is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information pertaining to financial aid application review with discretion.
- Thorough understanding of need analysis, student budgets, and federal/state/private aid management is necessary.
- Exceptional organizational skills, analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial aid databases (e.g. CPS, NSLDS, and ELM). Knowledge of a financial aid management system is required.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with NCAA rules is desirable.
- Experience with federal processing systems, including COD, is preferred.
- Experience with Banner is preferred.

Education

- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A Master’s degree is preferred.
