Research Scientist

Act as Research Scientist within the Research Department, working on assignments with Director of Research (DoR) to carry out the activities of the department, including but not limited to research, research administration, and education and training. In addition to conducting and/or collaborating on high-quality research studies that support the LCCW research effort, the Research Scientist may be assigned to serve on research-related assignments such as administration, vetting, and oversight (e.g. IRB, Research Compliance Board (RCB), Scientific Review Committee (SRC)), to serve as research mentor, and to participate in evidence-informed training of chiropractic students. Maintain and be responsible for confidential and sensitive information.

The Research Scientist position ordinarily requires a Ph.D. or its equivalent in research skill and subject knowledge. The Research Scientist typically works with Staff Scientists, Senior Staff Scientists or faculty members in attaining the goals of specific research project(s), which can include instrumentation and methodology development, and/or user support.


Conduct and collaborate on assigned Research projects including:

  • Development of scientifically defensible study proposals (SRC) and successful vetting of research study applications to oversight committees for compliance (RCB) and human subjects protections (IRB);
  • Research project management and documentation of project progress (e.g. Using project management software to generate Gantt Chartt timelines and milestones);
  • Maintain integrity and security of Research Project Data during Collection, Management, Analysis, and Archiving;
  • Disseminate research study findings via conference presentation and journal publication.
  • Serve as Research Mentor:

    • As requested by DoR, advise and mentor staff, faculty and students in research design.

  • As requested by DoR, provide research and technical assistance for staff, faculty and student research projects.
  • Facilitate RCB transition:

  • Serve as Chair, Research Compliance Board.
    • Update RCB policies and procedures.

    • Convene and facilitate RCB committee for reviews of proposed research studies.

    • Train LCCW RCB members.

    Serve on IRB :

    • As requested by DoR, assist faculty, staff, and student research investigators with submission of research study applications to RCB and/or IRB.

    • As requested by DoR, assist IRB Chair and Vice Chairs.


  • Attend college events including professional meetings as needed or required by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor, Director of Research (DoR).

    1. Assumes additional responsibilities, performs special projects, and assists with other duties as needed or requested.

    Education, Training and/or Experience

    • Terminal degree in an associated field required

    • PhD or equivalent research doctorate

    • A demonstrable research record evidenced by successful grant acquisition or publications or peer-reviewed presentations

      Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

    • Have a good understanding of research principles and methods, and the collection, management, and analysis of data from both subjective psychomodulated measures, and objective biomarker measurements.

    • Possess high-quality research skills in clinical or translational research, human performance research, or other human subjects research.

    • Ability to perform assigned duties with frequent interruptions and time pressures.

    • Ability to perform effectively as a team member on multiple teams simultaneously.

    • Possess a high level of creativity and efficiency and be self-directed.

    • Ability to maintain mental concentration for significant periods of time.

    • Ability to utilize personal computer and various general and scientific productivity software packages (e.g., Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Statistical Analysis, and Graphing programs).

    • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Have the ability to work flexible hours as required by a research project.


    1. Familiarity with chiropractic research and chiropractic education and training.

    2. University or college research experience


    1. Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.

    2. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files.

    3. Much time may be spent concentrating on specific task work, identifying and updating information and performing some data entry.

    4. Must be able to lift 10 lbs., retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking, carrying, grasping, hearing, seeing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
