PositionSummary:


Under the supervision of the Teaching Hospital Supervisorof Physical Therapy, Associate Director Inpatient Physical Therapy and SeniorTherapists, organizes and conducts music therapy treatment programs for theinpatients of the hospital in accordance with the prescription and/or referralof an authorized provider.

 BriefDescription of Duties:

  • Plansand provides music therapy treatment to pediatric (75% caseload) and adult (25%caseload) patients to increase feelings of self-expression, well-being,relaxation, calm, and pleasure. Benefits may also include reduction in pain,fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation and loneliness.
  • Coordinatesmusic therapy sessions with physical and occupational therapy programs as wellas other health care personnel. e.g, child life, psychology liaison,chaplaincy, nursing, physicians etc.
  • Integratemusic as part of an integrative treatment plan for the mind and body. Enhancethe benefits of medical and rehabilitative therapies. Facilitate discharge fromhospital.
  • Directsand trains patients in the use of music, play, listen, or move, to assist withmobility.       
  • Evaluates,records and reports patient’s progress for other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participatesin patient care evaluation and research studies.
  • Willparticipate in training of students in Physical Therapy and OccupationalTherapy Programs.
  • Responsiblefor the written evaluation of all assigned students.
  • Consultswith authorized providers concerning goals and treatment plans
  •  Presents in departmental inservices
  •  Participates in departmental rounds.
 Required Qualifications:   Master’s degree in music therapy program. CBMTcertification.
