Position Summary

Designs and develops highly complex, reliable, secure enterprise applications and integration services using the appropriate tools, processes, standards and technologies; collaborates with analysts, developers, and customers to define and design enterprise applications and integration services that requires combining multiple areas of technical expertise and technologies; independently scopes and leads large, complex and sensitive information technology projects; independently plans, develops, deploys and troubleshoots large/complex distributed applications and integrations; supports products including on premise services, internet-based services, databases, and application software; conducts research and interacts with vendors in order to recommend new products and new releases of existing products; evaluates and recommends innovations, acquisitions, implementation and integration of hardware/software services to support and improve university processes and services; acts as a key resource to all team/subunit members and to the information technology unit as a whole on technological issues of high complexity and management/communication of issues of high sensitivity or impact; participates in peer development on projects and training; designs, implements and enforces SDLC policies, procedures, standards and practices; assists in preparation of well-written documents for technical staff, internal/external customers, and management; liaises with network administrators, systems analysts, security analysts, vendors and internal/external customers to assist in resolving problems with software products and systems; assists in project management by providing time estimates of assigned project tasks and reporting any time estimate changes or scope changes to the project leader and/or management; participates in critical analysis of test results to determine and deliver solutions to problem areas; assists in the evaluation of utilities and system application packages; maintains technology expertise, keeping current with evolving systems, programming and database technologies; duties associated with this position involve working on a video display terminal 75 percent of the time; performs other duties as assigned.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; and five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience supporting enterprise applications including advanced application administration, configuration and customization, user/permissions management, SQL language database queries, and report development using multiple toolsets, including experience overseeing large, complex or critical information technology projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience implementing, administering and supporting business applications with an understanding of enterprise applications and security practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent analytical, leadership, and organizational skills across all levels of technical and functional units.
  • Experience in mentoring less experienced programmers and analysts; ability to work independently on complex work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively manage large projects to completion using resources within and outside of direct lines of authority.
  • Achieves results and demonstrates leadership under adverse circumstances (e.g., outages, limited resources and capabilities, shifting business directions, limited communication channels, cultural challenges, etc.)
