Instructor/Assistant Director of Law Enforcement Training

12-month Faculty

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assign, train, supervise and evaluate Law EnforcementTraining Academy faculty.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing policyand procedures for Law Enforcement Training Academy operations, functions,activities, and services.
• Assist in planning, organizing, managing and directing LawEnforcement Training Academy operations, functions, activities and services.
•Assist in recruitment by meeting quarterly with thesurrounding county sheriffs and police chiefs to solicit feedback, as well askeep them up-to-date on any curriculum or program changes regarding theacademy. Also responsible for following up on other recruiting opportunitiesthat will help grow the LET program.
• Handle difficult negotiations, personal relationships,public contacts, and problems related to day-to-day Law Enforcement TrainingAcademy operations and services.
• Assist in directing the maintenance and preparation ofoperating records and reports.
• Comply with Cleveland State Community College and theTennessee Board of Regents policies and guidelines.
• Utilize appropriate instructional materials and methods.
• Have familiarity with and use of multiple instructionalstrategies and approaches that recognize the diversity of student learningstyles and needs, including learning communities, and distributed learningdelivery systems.
• Apply the use of assessment techniques as the basis forimproving student learning, instructional methodology, and curricula.
• Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to theinstitution, maintain appropriate office hours, and secure approval for anyoutside employment commitments which might affect employment.
• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to thecommunity college concept.
• Be accessible to students for advisement, academic help,and assistance depending on instructional format.
• If needed, teach during all operational hours of thecollege on- or off-campus and be flexible in class schedule and delivery ofinstruction.
• Continuously improve curriculum, instructional deliveryand maintain currency in the discipline.
• Identify student access and student learning as toppriorities, employing innovative teaching strategies and active learningapproaches.
• Participate in institutional and academic unit meetings.
• Maintain and safeguard all necessary records and reportgrades periodically as prescribed by the Director of Admissions and Records.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Be willing to combine primary teaching responsibilitieswith college initiatives, community partnerships and grant-seeking initiatives.
• Be able to work cooperatively with other members of thecollege community.
• Participate in periodic evaluations.
• Participate in professional development activities on- andoff-campus.
• Support and participate in the recruitment and retentionefforts of the college.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements of thePosition
*Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
*Three years of experience related to the job classification (i.e., law enforcement trainer, specialized instructor status, etc.).
*Meet the standards currently established by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission for Specialized Police Instructor (P.O.S.T.) Rule 1110-3.04 which states, “10 years as a full time sworn law enforcement officer, instructor development course, and a 40-hour specialized training in an area relevant to the Basic Law Enforcement Curriculum.”
*Meet the standards presently required or those which may be required in the future by the Tennessee Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
*May be required to achieve additional skill, knowledge, or credentialing level.

Organization

Cleveland State Community College is an accredited public comprehensive community college committed to quality education and open access. The college operates within the governance of the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Approximately 3,500 credit students and 1,500 non-credit students enroll in Cleveland State Community College in a typical fall semester. The credit student population is split about evenly in the choice of transfer or career-technical programs. The average age of all students is 28 years. All persons are welcome at Cleveland State and the student population is non-racially identifiable. There are over 200 employees at the college including more than 70 full-time faculty members.

The 105-acre campus has 10 major buildings housing modern classrooms, laboratories, and student activity centers. Additional features include an excellent library, a multi-media center of emphasis, computer laboratories, a 400-seat theatre, a 3,000-seat gymnasium, athletic fields and tennis courts, a large reflector telescope, and a satellite downlink receiver which enables the college to serve as a site for many teleconferences. Cleveland State offers classes throughout the service area which includes Bradley, Meigs, McMinn, Monroe, and Polk Counties. The college has offices and classrooms in Athens and Vonore.

Situated in the scenic corridor of hills and valleys of Southeast Tennessee, Cleveland State presents an attractive atmosphere in which to enjoy varied facets of an educational experience. The community offers an abundance of service facilities and recreational opportunities. The college is located between Exits 25 and 27 on Interstate 75, 30 miles northeast of Chattanooga.
