Business Operations Specialist, Strategic & Financial Planning - McDonough School of Business

Located at the intersection of business, government, and international relations, Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business (MSB) develops principled leaders committed to serving both business and society. Through our global perspective, we prepare students to compete in today's international business environment.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic and Financial Planning, McDonough School of Business, the incumbent will provide assistance in the overall financial administration of MSB and is responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions flowing through the MSB's financial shared service center are in compliance with approved University policies and business processes and are given with the correct work tags to ensure meaningful financial reporting for department chairs and senior administrators. This position is responsible for faculty reimbursement of Faculty Services. The Business Operations Specialist has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Provide operational and financial support, by serving in the GMS Financials roles of Financial Reviewer, Journal Preparer and Cost Center Buyer for MSB.
  • Participate in analysis and problem resolution involving financial, administrative, and policy matters affecting MSB.
  • Serves as a resource regarding interpretation and communication of University, Main Campus, and MSB policies and procedures, and as such requires a current and in-depth knowledge of those policies.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously with little supervision.
  • Provide exceptional service to assigned departments by accurately anticipating and/or identifying needs, troubleshooting issues, and executing effective resolutions in a timely manner and in compliance with promulgated policies.

The Business Operations Specialist interacts with many University departments, requiring excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituents. These constituents include: department chairs and faculty, staff, Accounts Payable, Payroll Services, General Accounting, Advancement, and University Financial Affairs. The Business Operations Specialist will interact with various stakeholders from the MSB's academic departments and programs on a daily basis via phone, email, and/or instant messaging.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of three years relevant professional financial/administrative experience
  • Strong organizational skills and thorough knowledge of standard business practices
  • Excellent budget and fiscal management skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
