DESCRIPTION: The School of Business at the University of Redlands welcomes applications for one or two visiting faculty positions in Geographic Information Systems in Business at open rank.

The University of Redlands (www.redlands.edu) is recognized as a premiere regional liberal arts education institution, situated on a picturesque campus in the city of Redlands, within one hour of Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree and Lake Arrowhead. The School of Business offers innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs at several locations throughout Southern California. The position(s) are for two years through June 30, 2021 and may be renewable.

Applicants will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Business GIS and Location Analytics. Courses in the MBA program's Location Analytics concentration are offered both on-ground and online. Applicants are also expected to conduct research that concerns locational aspects of business, society, and the economy, and also be involved in faculty service to the school. The School's Spatial Business Initiative (SBI) is a unique Redlands-Esri partnership to attain business leadership in location analytics (www.redlands.edu/sbi). The purpose of this initiative is to maximize the understanding and effectiveness of GIS in business through education, publishing, research, and corporate outreach. The school's Center for Spatial Business is heavily invested in location analytics, spatial research, and education. More information can be found at www.redlands.edu/csb. In addition, the University-wide Center for Spatial Studies (CSS) supports faculty and students to think and act spatially, using GIS, big data/data science, remote sensing, concept mapping, mobile apps, cloud tools, and other technologies (https://www.redlands.edu/css). The University is located in a corporate cluster of world-class innovation on geo-technologies and software.

The School expects excellence in teaching, experience or strong interest in cross-functional teaching and research; desire to work with other faculty and with practitioners to create and implement innovative curricula teaching, and online learning; effective interaction with members of diverse cultures; motivation and desire to mentor and inspire traditional and non-traditional learners.

POSITION CRITERIA: Interested applicants should have a completed doctorate in Information Systems, Business, Geography or related fields with background in GIS, clear evidence of teaching achievement and/or potential, and demonstrable business knowledge at the MBA level or higher. Candidates with research accomplishment or potential in location analytics, applied GIS, or geo-intelligence are encouraged to apply. Experience in online instruction is highly desirable. Practitioner experience in business-related and spatial/locational projects is also highly desirable. Hires beyond the Visiting Assistant Professor level must be justified through significant and sustained teaching, as well as scholarly activity. All applicants should have a record of achievement in their functional area and vibrant interest in cross-functional teaching, adult learners, and business education within the context of traditional liberal arts and science disciplines. The School of Business operates without discipline-based departments. The selected candidate must be able to competently interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
