Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION(S): Design and implement a cross-platform social media strategy that celebrates and builds engagement for the college’s strategic goals -- especially its student recruitment and enrollment goals -- in a way that meets the college’s audiences where they are. Effectively use emerging and established platforms that serve prospective and current students, along with alumnae and extended members of the Smith community. Direct visual content creation (photography and video) in collaboration with staff, students and vendors. Work closely with colleagues in admission to align communications with recruitment objectives and calendar; work similarly with development and alumnae colleagues, as well as colleagues in College Relations. Tailor content styling and distribution to match the audience and voice of each social channel the college invests in. Track and evaluate trends in social media.

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Direct and implement a strategic social media communications plan: Work closely with staff and students to create, source, and distribute engaging content on social media channels. Content will include, but is not limited to: video, blog posts, group chats, and more. Develop social media campaigns in the context of the Office of College Relations’ emerging communications plan, which includes overarching strategic themes, news and other priorities as directed. Generate and source content that furthers the college’s engagement goals, working as needed with staff from College Relations, Admission, Office of Alumnae Relations, and more. Oversee channels including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.

 

 

 

Monitoring and Research: Closely monitor social and online media trends to ensure that all communications are aligned with current best practices and the demonstrated needs of prospective, admitted and current students, as well as alumnae and key influencers.

 

 

 

Analytics and Reporting: Use analytics to define, measure and report progress to the Associate Vice President for College Relations, the Director of Admission, and other offices as assigned.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience: Bachelor of Arts Degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in communication and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 

 

Skills: Demonstrated social media skills. Strong writing and interpersonal skills. Possess strong content creation skills and the demonstrated ability to conceptualize and carry out a communications campaign, preferably with a heavy emphasis on social media. Familiarity with videography and photography is required.
