The School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for three open positions of Teaching Assistant Professor in the Master of Arts of Teaching (MAT) program starting August 1, 2019 and ending July 31, 2020. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed term appointment, limited to this time period only (not renewable).

Responsibilities: Candidates will teach four face-to-face courses in both the fall and spring semesters, as well as two face-to-face or online courses in the summer. Courses will be taught primarily in the MAT program and may also be partially in our undergraduate Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) program. Candidates should be prepared to provide student teacher internship supervision and to teach core content courses as needed by the program—particular areas of need are math, science, and special education. Additionally, candidates may be required to teach other human service related courses in the HDFS program. Candidates are expected to attend MAT program meetings and provide support to the MAT program through student advising and contributing to recruitment and admissions related tasks.

Educational Requirements

Educational Requirements: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction or related field; ABD candidates who will complete their doctoral degree by the end of December 2019 will be considered.

Salary and Starting Date: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. The proposed starting date is August 1, 2019.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications: Candidates must have K-12 experience and licensure as a teacher and/or school administrator in the area(s) of elementary or middle school education, math education, and/or special education. Candidates must have an earned doctorate at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and licensure in the areas of math, science and special education as well as experience delivering graduate instruction and supervision.
