The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in statistics. We seek candidates with the potential to make significant contributions to the department’s teaching and scholarship missions. Candidates for this position must have (or be in the final stages of attaining) a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related field.
The normal teaching load for tenure-track faculty members is four courses for the first year, and five per year thereafter. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching and a strong, active research program. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to contribute to Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. They will also demonstrate a willingness and ability to contribute to the life of a vigorous mathematics program on a small, exclusively undergraduate campus. In particular, candidates must be capable of and interested in teaching within our current statistics curriculum and designing and offering new advanced courses. Applied, interdisciplinary, and theoretical research are equally valued. Lafayette’s mathematics department has an outstanding record of leadership in undergraduate research, and candidates should have an interest in mentoring student projects.
To apply on MathJobs, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, brief statements describing your teaching philosophy and research program, and three references. Those candidates attending the Joint Statistical Meeting in July 2019 should indicate this in their cover letter. Candidates should address in their applications how their teaching, scholarship, and/or service will support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as articulated in the College’s diversity statement (https://about.lafayette.edu/diversity-statement/). These materials can be submitted online at mathjobs.org. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Applications completed by October 4 will receive full consideration. Submit your application at: https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/jobs/14013
Members of the department will attend the Joint Statistical Meetings in July 2019 and are happy to meet with potential candidates. If you will be there, please contact Prof. Kimber (kimberc@lafayette.edu) to arrange a meeting.
