The Business School has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Graduate Student Advisor position.

 Nature of Work

This full-time staff position reports to the Director of Graduate Advising and provides advising services for the graduate students of the Business School.  These advising services help those graduate students progressing toward obtaining the Master of Business Administration degrees and the Master of Science degrees. 

 

This full-time professional exempt position embraces a philosophy of student development to foster academic and student success by working with a team of advisors to provide individual and group advising.  This position is responsible for managing and monitoring a caseload of diverse students in their development and progress towards their chosen program.   This position works collaboratively with advisors, faculty and staff representatives to provide timely and accurate information regarding requirements for completing a graduate degree.

 

The position develops and facilitates the dissemination of information for sessions and workshops for traditional, non-traditional, veteran and international graduate students.  The position contributes to the implementation of orientation advising sessions held each academic year and presents advising information at those orientations. The position utilizes technology extensively to support and implement the school’s service delivery model (i.e., electronic note-taking system (EAB SSC), student information systems (CU-SIS), degree audit system; advising by phone, email and other technologies.  The position will have responsibilities for the development and implementation of various retention and outreach activities for the center.  Pulling reports in Cognos and other databases will be part of the responsibilities of this position. 


Examples of Work Performed
Academic Advising:
Assist graduate Business students to navigate University and School processes and procedures, including letters and petitions, schedule changes, graduation, academic probation/suspension and program changes made by Program DirectorsServe as the students' primary academic advisor throughout the transfer evaluation, course selection, and registration process. Provide new and current student advising through scheduled in-person or phone appointments and/or email communications and at targeted events such as New Student Orientation and information sessions. Conduct individual and group advising sessions. Assist students in developing realistic academic plans by identifying the most effective and efficient path to program completion. Assist students in maintaining good academic standing, informing them of relevant policies, procedures and campus resources. Maintain appropriate documentation of all student contacts. Refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance with disability services, academic and personal issues and other college-related concerns.Advise, monitor, track and provide academic support to graduate students in the school.Onboarding: 
Responsible for welcoming new graduate students to include: attending and presenting at New Student Orientation events; maintaining, revising and sending out welcome letters; utilizing social media, assessing waivers; and contacting admitted not enrolled students each term.Retention:
Monitor and track student retention and other success benchmarks as needed and assigned. Assist with events and other learning opportunities that support students in reaching their academic and career goals. Collaborate with faculty and staff in developing academic success and advising resources including, but not limited to, online and print resources. Participate in retention activities both inside and outside of the school. Plan special events to build community among enrolled students.Technology Usage:
May perform and/or manage various procedures, each semester, in support of the student life cycle (onboarding, retention, graduation, probation, suspension), where reliance on technology (Microsoft Office and database and CRM systems) is critical. Maintain positive and productive working relationships with all Program Administrators and faculty to ensure that students receive accurate and reliable information. Serve on University and/or College Committees required by the position. Participate in events taking place during the evenings and/or on weekends (i.e. commencement).Serve as communication hub by drafting and sending out email communications to current students and utilizing social mediaUpdate shared drive and policy manual with new information as neededMaintain and update degree plansAssist the Assistant Dean with the editing of the catalog and brochure informationOther duties as may be assigned

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $ 50,000  to $ 57,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, education, communications, counseling, psychology, sociology, liberal arts or other related fields
  • Two years of higher education experience in advising or counseling of students
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree in business, public administration, education, communications, counseling, psychology, sociology, liberal arts or other related fields
  • Five years of higher education experience in advising or counseling of students
  • Experience with a student information system, 
  • Experience using Filemaker. 
  • Professional experience with social media outlets
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
