Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Information Systems. This is a 12-month, tenure track position with the possibility of tenure upon appointment.

The Chair shall provide academic and administrative leadership for the Department. The primary responsibilities of the Chair include, but are not limited to, providing program oversight and advancement; supporting a transparent shared governance environment; managing and allocating resources; establishing and implementing the Department’s strategic plan; managing and developing faculty and staff; reviewing and managing the Department’s budget; working with one or more external advisory boards; leading the Department’s marketing and alumni relations; overseeing student development; communicating with constituents in a respectful and collegial manner; and producing accreditation reports. The Chair is also expected to strengthen the Department’s relationships with the professional community and cultivate external support. Teaching is expected, though workload is negotiable.

The Department seeks a facilitative leader who can expand and promote innovative graduate and undergraduate programs. The ideal candidate should support and encourage a culture of diverse scholarship and teaching activities as well as foster a climate of collaboration and collegiality. The Chair should be able to advocate effectively for the needs and interests of the Department’s programs, students and faculty. The Chair should also have a balanced internal and external focus with a strong understanding of information systems and/or information security, as well as a clear awareness of industry and professional needs in the field.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

•An earned doctorate in Information Systems or a closely related field or its foreign equivalent.

•A record of success commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor in information systems, including demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and/or doctoral level(s); a distinguished record of research with an ongoing scholarly plan for the future; and demonstrated success in service to the university, profession, and/or business community.

•An ability to successfully develop and implement a strategic vision.

•A demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external business and professional communities.

•A demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including successfully working with and promoting diverse populations, scholarship and teaching activities.

Michael J. Coles College of Business and the Department of Information Systems (IS) are both fully accredited by AACSB International. The BBA-IS degree is one of the few IS programs to hold both AACSB and ABET accreditations. The IS Department consists of approximately 30 full and part-time faculty supporting Undergraduate degrees in Information Systems, Information Security and Assurance, and Cybersecurity; a Master’s of Science in Information Systems, a dual-degree MBA+MSIS degree, and the Georgia WebMBA; and the Doctor of Business Administration in Information Systems. Further, the Department is home to a Master’s of Science in Healthcare Management and Informatics, which spans three colleges and multiple departments. The Center for Information Security is housed in the Department, and is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cybersecurity. During the transition from 2005-2009, KSU teams have won six Atlantic Sun Conference tournaments in five sports, including men’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s soccer, softball and cross-country.

    Kennesaw State was originally established by the University System of Georgia as Kennesaw Junior College serving 1,000 students. The college became a four-year institution in 1976 and was named Kennesaw College in 1977. In 1988, on its 25th anniversary, it was named Kennesaw State College and in 1996 became Kennesaw State University.
