The Principal & Transformative Gifts Program at Georgetown University's Office of Advancement is a centralized program focused on cultivating long-term relationships with prospective donors who have the capacity to make principal ($5M+) and transformative ($10M+) gifts, leveraging the relationships and vision of University leaders to secure support for strategic University priorities. This unit within Prospect Management is responsible for driving donor-centric gift strategies that bridge external interests with institutional priories and allow our donors and prospective donors to deepen their philanthropic partnership with Georgetown.

As a member of the Prospect Management Team within Georgetown University's Office of Advancement, the Assistant Director of Prospect Management & Principal Gifts assists in the planning and implementation of strategies for Georgetown's principal and transformative giving programs with a group of fundraising and engagement teams within Advancement.
This individual acts as a consultant on projects and requests related to these internal clients. This position also serves as a coordinator for the Principal and Transformative Gifts program and the Principal Gifts Cross Functional Team. In partnership with these clients and other teams within Campaign Operations, the Assistant Director is responsible for fostering the principal gift pipeline and maintaining active prospective donor principal pipelines within each dual major gift officer portfolio to support development and Advancement objectives.
The Assistant Director tracks principal and transformative campaign milestones and works with partners across Advancement in the projection of fiscal and campaign objectives for principal and transformative gifts. Additionally, they assist in the planning and implementation of strategy for the University's top prospects, while working closely with the Data & Analytics Group's research and identification unit.
The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Director of Principal Gifts, Prospect, and Campaign Management. This role will work closely with development officers and associates, campaign operations team members, donor relations, stewardship, and the campaign research and analytics team. This role will also interact with the AVPs for Regional Advancement and Principal Gifts, as well as Campaign and Development Operations. Additionally, the Assistant Director will interact with all teams within Advancement and various university departments, top-level university alumni, parents, friends, donors, and volunteers.
The Assistant Director will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Principal and Transformative Pipeline Development and Portfolio Management
  • Serves as the principal liaison for Prospect Management and has a consultative relationship with the development associates, executive assistants, and development officers who hold top prospects in their respective portfolios, including regional, unit, GUMC, GULC, CFR, and Planned Giving teams.
  • Serves as the principal and transformative gift liaison to Planned Giving, developing a full understanding of the Planned Giving pipeline and necessary centralized resources.
  • Schedules meetings for Advancement staff and others, systematically and as-needed, to develop thoughtful and comprehensive strategies for principal gift prospects. Proactively ensures appropriate and timely follow-up coming out of these meetings and sessions.
  • Collaborates with the Donor Relations team to track and provide materials for presidential and vice presidential travel in conjunction with the development of top prospect engagement plans, including the coordination of presidential and vice presidential briefings.
  • Offers input into potential cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for top prospects and works to track such strategies within the CRM system, maintaining up-to-date principal and transformative gift pipeline information including strategies for all $5M+ current top prospects.
  • Keeps Advancement officers, University leadership, and others appropriately informed on the identification, assessment, organization, management, and attentive stewardship of principal gift constituents.
  • Meets regularly and as-needed with each frontline unit team to evaluate needs, consult on strategy, and provide principal and transformative portfolio-related data.
  • Manages the principal and transformative dashboards and reports.
  • Participates on portfolio review development and execution, working closely with frontline teams.
  • Performs other key duties as assigned.

Data Integrity, Campaign Planning, and Administration
  • Plays a key role in Advancement's prospect management and information management functions by serving as an expert on prospect development policies and procedures and deep knowledge of the university's prospect pool of suspects, prospects, and donors, especially within the principal and transformative areas and as it related to top prospects.
  • Serves as the principal and transformative gift liaison to the Data & Analytics Group, collaborating on principal gift identification and portfolio analytics.
  • Maintains an understanding of the university's emerging strategic priorities as potential campaign giving opportunities, especially “big idea” or transformative priorities.
  • Works with the Data & Analytics Group on data analysis related to campaign planning, pipeline management, and portfolio optimization to assist with informing management decisions that will drive towards a performance-based, metrics-savvy organization and increased revenue growth.
  • Supports the management and reporting on campaign fundraising priorities, including but not limited to principal and transformative prospective donor pipeline development, analysis, and tracking through data visualization, development of best practices, and using analytical models.
  • Participates in testing and review of reports and functionality related to CRM database conversion implementation.
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of constituent information at all times; upholds Advancement policies regarding confidential information. Adheres to ethical and confidentiality guidelines to both Georgetown University and the Association of Professional Researcher for Advancement (APRA).
  • Performs related duties and assist with departmental projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in prospect development, campaign planning, frontline fundraising, or equivalent experience in analytical research or another information-related field within an academic, nonprofit, or corporate environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is necessary.
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R or other similar programs is beneficial.
  • Background work in data visualization and understanding of key data visualization concepts is preferred.
  • Experience with relational/CRM databases to perform searches and create reports is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that demonstrates the ability to synthesize material from multiple sources into coherent and accurate presentation.
  • Strong ability to triage, set priorities, and manage conflicting goals and agendas.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment when working with sensitive information.
