IT Technician - Georgetown University Medical Center

Requirements

The IT Technician is part of a dynamic IT team that is fully integrated into all critical functional areas of the School of Nursing & Health Studies (NHS). The NHS IT team empowers users' application of technology in their pursuit of teaching, learning, research and administrative goals. The team is responsive to emergent day-to-day technology issues, but also proactive in educating members of the community and raising their overall technological proficiency. Reporting to the Chief Administrator within the Office of the Dean, the IT Technician has additional responsibilites that include but are not limited to:

Technical Support
  • Performs problem diagnosis, resolution, and follow up for desktop and data technology issues for all NHS faculty and staff, providing one-on-one end user support and technical assistance for faculty and staff in NHS.
  • Works with the UIS infrastructure in meeting this goal. Specific examples of this accountability may include: Software maintenance and installation, and basic repair of equipment such as computers, copiers, printers, phones, and projectors.
  • Oversees the on-boarding, training, and orientation of new hires to standard GU software and IT setup.
  • Manages activation and moves for voice/data connections within the school.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of the equipment replacement cycle.
  • Oversees Inventory management.

Interface with Technology Support Service Providers
  • Works closely with other technology support service providers throughout the university to ensure that support to the NHS community remains at a high level of continuity, consistency, and is optimized to the NHS working environment.
  • Uses professional resources and alliances to enhance the quality of solutions offered to users for NHS-specific applications.
  • Helps support needs analysis for specialized technologies and projects.
  • Coordinates with appropriate campus groups to find solutions for areas such as high speed networking, distance education, and custom application development.
  • Acts as a liason with organizations, including , University Information Services, Center for New Designs in Learning & Scholarship, Classroom Educational Technology Services, and External Vendors.

Special Projects
  • Manages specific project efforts or committee assignments and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Mac OS software & hardware experience
  • Minimum of one year providing hands on support and technology assistance
  • Clear communication skills in addition to strong organizational skills and a commitment to attention to detail
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple complex tasks at once and respond to ever-changing environments comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Preferred candidates will have 2-4 years experience providing technology support, Mac OS software & hardware certification, and also have demonstrated experience in Office software suite support, mobile technology, computer equipment repair, and modern AV equipment
