Assistant Director, Office of Student Conduct Division of Student Affairs

Assistant Director, Office of Student Conduct - Division of Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs supports the academic mission by educating students as whole persons, promoting their intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social formation; enhancing students' learning and helping to prepare them for lives of discernment, civic engagement, and professional growth; teaching personal responsibility and respect for people of all faiths, cultures, and beliefs; promoting the health and safety of students and others in the University community.

The mission of the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) is to assist in students' educational development by promoting concepts of fairness and due process in judicial settings, while striking a balance between community standards and individual behavior.

The Assistant Director for the Office of Student Conduct will play a vital role in fulfilling the Office's fundamental mission to assist in students' educational development by promoting concepts of fairness and due process in judicial settings while striking a balance between community standards and individual behavior. The Assistant Director will have primary oversight for student conduct issues for all students residing off-campus in local neighborhoods. This includes both undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Director will also handle other Office of Student Conduct related matters, as needed, and provide leadership for the office during the Director's absence. Duties of this role include but are not limited to:

Adjudication of Code of Student Conduct violations
  • The Assistant Director will have primary oversight for student conduct issues for all students residing off-campus in local neighborhoods. This includes both undergraduate and graduate students.

Training and Outreach

Assist with campus-wide training and education on student conduct/community issues. Groups that require training include:
  • Appeals Committee
  • Office of Student Conduct Advisory Committee
  • Student Advocacy Office
  • GUPD
  • Case management
  • Threat assessment
  • Sexual Assault Working Groups
  • Academic Deans Offices
  • Residential Living Staff
  • Office of Global Education
  • Other (new committees/working groups that require OSC participation)

Data and Assessment
  • Assist with the management of department's assessment functions, including but not limited to assessment of student learning outcomes.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Completes special projects, serves on campus committees, assists with office's Title IX obligations and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Masters degree in higher education or related field; or a J.D. law degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in student judicial services in a college or university setting; demonstrated success as a professional in an administrative student conduct process or closely related area.
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with current Title IX obligations; possess an understanding of and commitment to student development, character formation and community building; ability to handle sensitive cases, emergency situations and make sound judgments regarding immediate priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, analytical skills; and the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of students, parents, faculty/staff, partner offices and the neighboring community.
