Position Description

The Director of Instructional Design will report to the Executive Dean of Academic Excellence and provide positive, strengths-based leadership for the Instructional Design Team. The Director will closely collaborate with instructional designers, faculty and learning managers to ensure that NTC is providing effective, efficient and essential curriculum for current and future College programs and products. The Director will provide an innovative outlook on curriculum development and delivery to include micro-learning, competency based education, mobile education and integrated e-resource use.

As a member of Leadership, the Director of Instructional Design will portray a broad institutional perspective that supports the College's mission, vision, and goals while fostering and creating an environment that strives to anticipate and meet customer needs. A Leader will support a shared leadership culture through participation in and facilitation of teams.

In addition, Leaders will live NTCs operating principles of integrity, respect, learning, collaboration, responsibility, innovation, and service.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Executive Dean of Academic Excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. The Director will lead efforts to continuously improve student outcomes and meet stakeholder needs through the seamless integration of faculty experiences and wisdom with best practices in curriculum planning, development, deployment, evaluation, revision and tracking.
  2. The Director will lead a highly productive team of instructional designers guided by a commitment to professionalism, accountability, and attention to results.
  3. The Director will engage in regular professional development to ensure that NTC remains at the cutting edge of the delivery of accessible, high quality and fiscally responsible education.
  4. The Director, in collaboration with Information Technology, will develop a robust, transparent system for the tracking of curriculum by competency, credit, course and mode. The Director will conduct a gap analysis and scope the curriculum dashboard project for learning managers (Deans, Associate Deans and Learning Coordinators) in order to ensure the College portfolio demonstrates appropriate breadth and depth.
  5. The Director will ensure the maintenance of a secure repository of assessments to align non-credit and credit institutional offerings that integrates national best practices and facilitates the organic development of badging and/or alternative credentialing.
  6. The Director will collaborate with Human Resources on the Faculty Quality Assurance System instructional competencies, professional development and mentoring requirements. The Director will coordinate with the Director of Professional Development to address faculty development needs.
  7. The Director will coordinate with the Director of Instructional Technology to pilot the emerging tools and technologies of high-quality curriculum delivery.
  8. The Director will collaborate with the College Advancement Team to effectively manage the development of grant-funded curriculum and the distribution of ground-breaking product development and delivery. The Director will further coordinate with Program Development, Accreditation and Pathways staff to ensure institutional curriculum is appropriately aligned, while using information provided by Institutional Research to make data-informed decisions.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree
  • Formal curriculum development training
  • Three years working with curriculum at a community or technical college
  • Experience designing curriculum in a learning management system
  • Ability to develop, analyze and manage curriculum in multiple delivery modes
  • Successful track record of working in collaboration with faculty, learning managers, and other teams in a higher education institution
  • Three years leadership experience

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three years working with curriculum at a Wisconsin Technical College System institution or for the Wisconsin Technical College System State Office
  • An understanding of the Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS)
  • An understanding of the Canvas Learning Management System
  • An understanding of Cengage Unlimited products
  • Teaching experience at a post-secondary, accredited institution preferred
  • Teaching experience in a Wisconsin Technical College System institution in multiple modalities highly preferred
  • Experience with alternative educational delivery methods including Competency Based Education and e-learning
