COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

TRUMAN COLLEGE


This position provides technical services and support for end users at a Truman College, including setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of PCs, operating systems, software applications, peripherals, network connectivity, basic telecommunications products, network and web applications. Supports applications and user needs on demand, including local and network printers, cell phones and PDAs, organizers and other hardware and software devices.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides technical support by installing, maintaining and troubleshooting PC and client systems, including software, hardware, operating systems, software applications, network cards and peripheral devices such as printers, modems, cell phones, etc.
  • Maintains proper system hardware and software configuration of client workstations, including OS/security, anti-virus and other software updates.
  • Provides backup support to network support staff.
  • Interacts with vendors if necessary regarding hardware installation and repairs.
  • Provides basic support of end telecommunications and network devices.
  • Supports other emerging technologies and systems as required by City Colleges of Chicago.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned.


Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field with 2 years of experience working in an IT or related field with job description and duties comparable to this CCC position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Requires extensive technical knowledge including high versatility and full familiarity with various hardware and software used at CCC.
  • Some organizational skills needed for following proper procedures in recognizing needs and recommending solutions (ex. increase access rights to network areas, software).
  • Must be able to explain technical issues to end users in user-friendly terms.
  • A level of creativity and applied knowledge of computer technology is desired in order to continue with constant improvement and learning of new technologies.
